Ok, so after my vista encounter, i ra-acquired my computer to its previous condition. After NTFS conversion, i ended up with a missing ntldr error, so i went and copied the ntldr and ntdetect.com off my cd to C:\

now from my computer, i can see a recovery partition. and worse, the computer is booting off the boot records on that partition. what the heck?!

did you do a fixmbr & fixboot? I thought fixboot repairs the missing ntldr issue. I did this from a ligit WinXP Pro CD retail, It was laying around.

    - I got rid of my recover parttion & put fresh windows on from the start, but I am comfortable with that

when I boot to an XP CD, & go to the recovery sction, I get to choose the Windows install to repair (there was only one for me). Then it asks for the admin password. Is that how it played out for you?

yea, i then put in "fixmbr" and "fixboot" and run "bootcfg /list" to confirm the entry is available. THen in windows that particular boot.ini exists in my recovery partition.

i gave up and recovered for the 4th time today. Im going to see what happens if i dont convert to NTFS.
