    blu ray for asus pro71sr

    Hi was wondering if a sony BD-ROM BC-5500S would be compatable with the asus pro71sr laptop?

    the standed drive thats in there at the moment is a mata dvd-ram uj-860s which is ata serial

    As long as the laptop supports 12.7 mm optical disks it should work. You will need additional software to play Blu-ray movies.

    ok no worries thanks i will take the drive out and have a look
    and how can i find out it if supports 12.7mm optical disk?

    I couldn't find the full specs on your existing mata drive. Obviously if it's 12.7 you're good. If you remove the drive just measure it's thickness. 12.7mm is approx. 1/2 inch.

    no worries panzer thanks for your help the drive is actually a mata uj-860s
    i tried correcting the spelling on the other post but couldnt anyway that is the current drive i have in it

    Yep, comes up as 12.7mm so you will be fine. I don't know your laptop but if it's easy to remove you can replace it with a Blu-ray drive.
