Granted most reviews were for their motherboards but a 2.50 rating makes me rethink this ASUS laptop thing. Seems customer service is bad and complaints of no 800 service number (I hope they have changed that as I haven't confirmed!). At best maybe I should be rethinking the Ensemble verses Built on ASUS decision.
Doesn't anybody have sevice like IBM anymore? Dell, Toshiba, everywhere I look I find faults and no clear path to laptop glory. Ya I know... if you look close enough you can find bad in every company.

Proportable seemed to rate well... could't find ratings for the others except for NewEgg.

Since you rely on your integrator or reseller, not Asus, for after sale customer service, the Asus rating doesn't really mean that much. Just look at the number of ratings Asus has compared to their resellers.

Pick your reseller wisely and you should be fine.

Are ensemble machines still serviced through the reseller?

That is where I would go. They are backed up by Asus, but you will rarely if ever need to deal with Asus directly if you are buying from a good reseller.

Good idea but I can't even suggest that. The warranty will be voided on ensemble machines that are not serviced through Asus themselves. That's part of their new warranty terms that started three months ago.... We may be backed by Asus US, but not by Asus Taiwan and since the warranty is global, Asus Taiwan only trusts those Asus employees who they've trained.

Unfortunately, that's how it is now.

That's a good train of thought, but it doesn't always work out that way. Just know that if anything does happen, it'll get taken care of.

Justin, do the Asus ratings at ResellerRatings.com resemble your experience with Asus customer service?

I would think (hope) that you and your customers have had a much more pleasant experience with Asus than what is shown there. And, if any of your customers are disappointed with the service they get from Asus, aren't you there to back them up and see to it that Asus does right by them?

Well, no.... that RR is 99.9% just for their motherboards and graphics cards....... but it's sort of dumb to even be there because they don't sell anything directly. Their motherboard support has always been baseline with the rest of the industry as their mobo repair facility in Memphis is where they support the dell and hp mobos that they make on the OEM side..... never liked that.

For notebooks, you're dealing with a group of 5-6 people in Fremont who actually do the tech support....... they've ALWAYS been great. If Asus tries to give our customer the cold shoulder, of course we're there to speak up for them and to get them in gear... We've only had to do that a couple times and both times they turned out to have been busy and just didn't get to that customer yet. Needless to say they went to the top of the call back list anyway.

In the case of Asus not fixing a system, I've never and will never experience that. Even though we, just like you guys Donald, are more than capable of fixing issues with their computers as we on the custom side. However, this is Asus' warranty and they're getting the funds from the sale to support that warranty. Also, if we physically repair the unit, we technically void the warranty. We're fighting against this as sometimes we feel it would obviously be in our best interest to take care of these systems from begining to end, but Taiwan is unwilling to sign off on it as internationally the *only* people who service their systems are Asus' own techs in their offices.

But I guess to just be clear about their reseller ratings..... 1.. it's reseller ratings, not ODM ratings..... it's ridiculous to even have them on there, but all it takes is one person to submit their name and review. 2.. their notebook support is different and their mobile division is seperate from their motherboard, graphics card and oem division.... it's like different companies all together.
