Why a gaming laptop if you're not going to game? You don't need a powerful GPU to run After Effects CS4, so you can spend the $200ish you save on a more powerful CPU.

Im looking for this particular company, I hear good things about ASUS and MSI but I want to spend no more than $1500 for this laptop. Another reason is that if I get a laptop that can handle high res gaming; It'll be a breeze in Premiere Pro and After Effects. Plus Im going to do a lil gaming on the side.

As far as your current specs there easy to match. I assume you wish to stick with a 17 inch, or possibly move up to a 18.4 inch?

Budget please? Quad core is probably doable btw but only one your going to get stock is a Q9000 which is 2.0 Ghz but if the applications your using are optimized for multi core (are multi threaded) then thats actually fine if not then i recommend a strong C2D.

EDIT - Okay i see a budget now, and im actually glad he came here.

Only way your getting a 17 inch asus with quad core for 1500 is this - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ASUS&lp=10&type=product&cp=1&id=1218095770874

However since you dont need a killer GPU but can benifit from a decent one here is a suggestion from our friends at GenTechPC an 18.4 inch N90 for 1500 - http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=N90Sv-A1

The best buy model lacks the proper screen res, has 1440x900 if u can live with that you get a 260M a quad core and 6gb of ram.

Yeah I want to stick with a 17" I had a 18.4 inch Sony AW but that bad boy put a hurting on my back. So a 17" would be sweet. I know it might be asking for too much but somethings thats traditional in color. Ive seen some hi power laptops but they have burnt orange, bright red, and all other kind of stuff. If I have a choice I'll prefer something thats all black, it doesnt matter if its glossy or matte. Maybe a grey laptop but it doesnt matter. Just as long as its nothing to flamboyant. Because if I have to goto a meeting and show my demo reel I dont want them to be destracted by my laptop color.

If I can get a laptop where the RAM is upgradable to at least 6 gigs or 8 will be SWEET too. I just want to make sure that I'll be ready to upgrade when stuff like CS5 comes out. I dont want to be in this situation next year.

For a 17 inch as i said 1400 and Quad Core for the best buy the res sucks for some people at 1440x900 - http://redirectingat.com/?id=525X83...ASUS&lp=10&type=product&cp=1&id=1218095770874

The Reseller model with 1200P and Bluray in addition to the quad is 2 grand and not yet shipping - http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=G71GX-A1

A 17.3 inch alternative to the N90 is the N70 at a grand features the same graphics card its a little lacking with 1600x900 and a P8700 but the price is fair for the spec - http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=N70Sv-B1

Most of the laptops support up to 8gb of DDR2 but the G71's actually have 3 ram slots and support up to 12 GB.

G71 is those first two links in the post you quoted, 1400 for the lower res non blu ray model at best buy and then the expensive 2 grand high res, bluray, bluetooth equipped reseller model in the second link.

Not to mention the 2000 dollar G71Gx-A1 comes with a better warranty (2 years +1 year accidental) it also comes with a backpack and mouse.

Oh ok those are the ones with the red trim.. I love the design of the N70 and N90s but I wonder do they have something hot and ready vs built to order. I dont mind doing that only if I know shipping is fast

All of the asus are already built when you order them from GenTech but they do offer upgrades, while the upgrades are the full retail cost of doing it they also do it without voiding the warranty.

Well that N70 is better than the N70 i linked you too and the specs versus the price are good. I think that would work well for you and even has bluray for when your bored :p

Not from asus i dont think. Between that weak N70 and the G71 i think that N70 is probably the best compromise. The good units in the N series are loaded multimedia laptops.

As the N70 owners lounge about overclocking but if they can do it via normal software means then itll be like the rest of us, SetFSB enter the pll and then change the bus speed.
