Zenbook Flip S question

Wondering if anyone here has an answer to my question.

I'm eyeing the 2018 Zenbook Flip S. I love the slim build, the blue and gold and the fact that it has a touch screen.

However, the reviews are very mixed. Some say the screen is dim, others say the battery life is subpar. Others don't mention either and praise the machine.

What I've noticed is that most reviews (including most negative ones) concern the 2017 version. But the 2018 version hasn't got a lot of coverage yet.

Does anyone know if the screen brightness, battery life and even fan noise have all been improved on the 2018 version with 8th gen processors? Or did the machine stay the same and did they just update the processor?

Hopefully I'll be finding out on Tuesday. I found the 2017 version to be as bright as anything else in the shop (including new Spectre) where I played with it. Obv hard to hear fan noise in the shop. The 2017 edition was very cool to the touch, in great contrast to the new Surface Pro next to it that was roasting, although neither were actually doing anything. I too havent seen the 2018 version in the flesh. But there are reviews of it on French and Italian Amazon. Negative reviews on Italian Amazon were about the fact the keyboard was French version, not about its performance. There is a good return policy at the moment here so if I'm not totally satisfied it will be going back. In particular there is very little info on the stylus. Of course most shops never have them to try out. The stylus will be the make or break for me. Most people seem to think of it as a gimmick - they clearly havent discovered what a stylus can do, especially these days. I have had a wacom graphire digitizer since ~2001, havent used a mouse since, and havent used a keyboard either most of the past 8 years or so (Ativ, Note 10.1 & 3 neo). But graphire is EMR and so is S-pen, so it will be interesting to see how the active pen will be.
This is a mega-purchase for me so my fingers are crossed.

It's discounted at my retailer this week, i7/16GB/512SSD for €1250. Really nice, but I'm still wondering if the brightness and battery are up to par. They've also discounted the Surface Pros, so...

 

Wow that is a great price for those specs...here in Greece add another 500€
Sorry for delay in replying , I wanted to use the Asus (i7 8550U, 16Gb RAM, 512Gb SSD) for a while before making any comments. Plus I repeatedly couldn't login from my usual tablet (not the Asus).
So it starts up & shuts down in seconds (<3). Fingerprint scanner is fine. Windows updated (1709+1803) without any hitches whatsoever, although the fan was working away (not surprising since the updates basically reinstall Windows). When the fan does come on it is very quiet "whoosh", and is barely perceptible. I have not enabled Asus' Quiet Fan yet because the fan's rarely on and is so quiet anyway (I'm VERY sensitive to any noise so you can take my word for that). During the updates it got pretty warm to the touch, I wouldn't say hot. But it cools really quickly.
I've managed to get a full day's work out of it at 30% brightness or less (8-10 h, with 15% or more battery left), Word running all day using pen+ handwriting input (plenty of macros and using large files), some browsing, A/V running.
Pen input is flawless, Window's Ink not always so. USB-C charges either side. Dongle works fine. So far absolutely no hitches. Will try photoshop at the weekend I hope, unless I get time before. Nikon's viewNX and Capture run smoothly. So far everything is buttery smooth.
I only ran a quick benchmark exe, first time was terrible then I remembered I had A/V doing a scan! Turned off A/V (and battery saver LOL) ran it again and score came out above that expected for the specs it has. I haven't tweaked anything yet and have not delved into Win 10 to shutdown stuff that can kill performance. Having come from Win 8.1 I'm still finding my way around.
So far it has flown thru what I've done on it. The occasional glitch has been Windows not Asus.
Screen is very reflective, but colours are great & punchy. It's very easy to use in portrait mode, or any other in fact.
I find the screen to be bright so I have it around 25-30% only.
I only wish it cost your price here!
