I just received my Z71V today, and have run into a problem with the dvd burner I have. It doesn't fit. The connector on the drive is smaller than the one inside the laptop. From what I can tell, the drive has a standard connector. I found a website with some information about slim optical drive rear panel connectors, but I can't find where I can buy one. Here is the website...

Was the laptop supposed to come with one? Was the dvd burner supposed to come with one? I would very much like to start using my laptop, so anybody with ideas please respond.

    My laptop specs:

    Pentium M 750
    2 x 512 MB PC4200 Kingston RAM
100 GB 5400 RPM Hitachi TravelStar SATA harddrive
Intel PRO a/b/g wireless mini-pci card
Pioneer DVR-K05 slim slot loading dual layer dvd burner

I'm not sure if the z71v was meant for a slot load drive, but I hope so - they're pretty cool :p

From what I can tell (from all the pics of the Z71V I've seen with a drive installed) it appears that the front bezel of the drive has a curve to it that conforms with the shape of the laptop, however, I have yet to find a slim dvd burner that has this shape... Does anyone know if there is some sort of enclosure/shell that I can put DVR-K05 in to make it fit in the laptop?

There is a special drive housing that you need for the dvd drive to fit correctly in the notebook, this usually isnt aproblem as 99.9% of people usually get the drive that comes with the notebook. Thus if they ever want to upgrade they can just take the drive housing off the old drive and put it on the new one. You will need to contact the place you got the lappie from to see if they have any spares, or you could try proportable or one of the other retails on this forum.
    good luck

ps this enclosure will enable the drive to fit correctly, however the external facing is a different matter and is for looks not fit. Thus u may need to scout very hard to be able to fit the drive in this lappie and make it look retail.
Just a quick question, why didnt u just get the drive that normally ships with the notebook....so much less hassel.
