I am new to all this and finally decided on a Z70va. I have been doing more reading and I am now wondering if the Z70va can handle the additional heat that is generated by the 7200 Hard Drives? Thanks.

    bah...it all depends on YOU.

I have a 5400rpm Western Digital harddrive and it gets pretty darn warm, not so much on the palm rest, but warm enough.

The bottom of your laptop where the harddrive is, gets freakin' hot sometimes, so I don't know about the 7200rpm unless you NEED it.

    Cheers,
    Mike

the warmth of my toshiba 5400 doesnt bother me, but the unit itself heats up fast. for example just defragging the hard drive will put it above 55 celcius and cause it to pop up alerts and stuff since its not supposed to go too high. i'm sure 7200s will have a higher heat threshold but that means u'll feel the extra heat. if u're not too nit picky on stuff like that then u should be fine.

Get a Seagate 7200rpm ....... you'll appreciate the warmth and battery life if you have any experience with the Hitachi's......

Thanks everyone for your insights. It looks like I will be getting a Seagate 80GB 7200. I hope to get my Z70va by Thursday next week.

I've had the Z70va since mid-December 05. It has a 100GB 7200RPM hdd that only causes mildly warm air out the side exhaust even when playing an intense game for four or more hours at a stretch.

Heat's just not a problem with this nb. Of course, I wouldn't put any notebook directly on my lap for very long! :)
