practcically every time i start up my laptop the taskbar locks up and i am unable to do anything. It takes anywhere for 30 seconds to a couple minutes. Are there any ways to fix this?

You could turn off taskbar items that you don't want/use. You can also turn off startup items that are unnecessary...do that by typing msconfig in a run box. Then go to start up and turn off anything you don't need. You can google anything that you aren't sure about for what you should and shouldn't turn off.

Just to add to that, check this programs out, it will tell you how long your boot time is, how long each programs or task takes to load.

From there also do what Caleb mentioned, Windows + R, type "msconfig" and then lcick startup and turn off uncessary programs, with the aid of google.

Aim for 45 secs to 1 minute, but lower is better, some people are able to get 35 seconds boot up time, which is fast and nice.

How old is the unit? Is this a new install of Windows? Is this SP2? Are you using the drivers from the CD or the website?

Maybe you might want to check the CPU temperature in the BIOS? (F2 on startup for most models, might be DEL).
