I've recently sold my old Z63a system to my gf, but since then I've had the sudden urge to do a mod to it - I want to take out the motherboard and put it into a W3N chassis with a W3V brushed aluminum LCD cover. All of these parts can be purchased on the Asus eStore for a total of about...200 something dollars, which isn't too bad. I think the final result will look amazing.

However, my question is... will the parts fit? I know the Z63a/W3V have an identical motherboard MINUS the dedicated video card... but what about the W3N? I want to use the W3N chassis parts because they're of darker colour. Does anyone know if the parts will fit the Z63a motherboard?

    Bump... does anyone know?
I know some of the W3N parts can be used to replace the W3V parts... but are all three of them interchangeable? I want to make sure before I purchase the parts...

I will definitely post pictures for a before and after comparison :)

I don't think the W3n can be fitted with the W3v as the W3n was the first gen Centrino platform - it has the 9700 video card, the W3v had the x600. You may want to look at close up pics of the W3n and W3v just in case though.

For sure the lid will fit.

I'd say check the ports. If the W3N has the same number, location, and types of ports as the W3V, then it should work fine, considering it's the same basic chassis. I don't think they'd adjust the size or dimensions of the motherboard between generations unless they had to due to a change in the ports (like the change from PCMCIA to ExpressCard, for instance)

I know that a lot of parts of the W3V and N are interchangeable, but I'm not sure about the motherboard.

Couldn't you use the W3V chassis, but then put in like W3N palm rests and such?

I'm not getting a new motherboard... I'm simply switching the motherboard out of the Z63a and putting it into a W3N case... with the W3V lid. I'm using the W3N case because it's slightly darker than the W3V case... I like that :)
