Is there a reason this notebook is overlooked? I have not seen any reviews on it here and I have heard that it has been available for awhile. Does anyone actually own this notebook that can give some insight? because I am interested in buying it:

    PROPortable Z62f
    1. Intel® Core Duo™ w/ 2MB Cache; 677MHz FSB : T2400 - 1.83GHz; 677MHz FSB; w/ 2MB Cache
    2. DDR2 so-Dimm : 1024 ddr2 677 (1024mb x 1) - Corsair
    3. Hard Drives 2.5" ATA100 : Seagate Momentus 80GB 7200 RPM w/ 8MB Buffer
    4. Optical Drive : 8x DVD Super Multi Burner (+/- R/RW)
    5. Internal Wireless Card (Required for Centrino) : Intel PRO/3945 Wireless 802.11a/b/g MiniPCI
    6. Operating Systems : No Operating System
    7. Warranties : 3 years parts & labor w/ 1 way paid shipping
    $1,707.71 $1,707.71

It seems to have a fast processor and a higher rpm hard drive than most of the new laptops coming out that are also duo, with a lower price tag

IMO it's a lot of money for a lappy without a dedicated graphics card or OS. If gaming is not important, it's definately a fast rig though.

The Z62f is not a Lenovo...it's an ASUS!
However, you can't go wrong with ProPortable. Their prices aren't the cheapest around, but you really do get what you pay for: excellent service, and quality parts assured.

As for saying it has a fast CPU and faster HD than most. makes no sence. Its a built on model meaning you customize it to what you want in it it can come with anything you want to change the price accordingly. The reason you havent seen any reviews on it is just one. Its butt ugly compared to the built on its repacing. Also they dropped the modular bay in this model which is a shame. And im sure that will effect sales. But it is a decent pc looks aside.

It's all about the dedicated graphics......... On this forum all built-on's will get less.. lets call it "air time", only because it's not as nice to talk about a "plain looking", sort of "blah" laptop... when you could talk about ... well everything else you've read, I'm sure.

Not everyone needs dedicated graphics and if you don't, then you don't need to pay for them..... Unless you're a gamer or do heavy 3d work... it's a waste of $200 really. Now, I don't know the work you do, but it looks like a really nice configuration for anyone... I don't know if you can make use of the 7200rpm hard drive, but if you can, then it will be biggest performance part you could put in your system - but you should ask yourself if you need it. You could go with 5400rpm - get slightly better life and slightly less heat....and spend less money. Although, if you can really use it - it's a priceless upgrade.

But basically - it's a workhorse of a system and although it's not as pretty as the W3 series, it does replace the Z63a (W3a) in the lineup and does bring a lot to the table... including the option for the portbar3 - which is something many people looking at W3's want - but can't have. With that option, I'd say it's a great office machine.

I've seen at least 2 reviews from around the net (DLMunson's at NotebookForums and Geared2Play's here at NotebookReview), but remember it's still a rather new laptop! Anyway, both have been pretty complementary - obviously it doesn't have some of the extras (looks, modular bay, good speakers, dedicated graphics), since it's so inexpensive, but from what I can tell, it's quite solid where it counts (durability, screen, specs, keyboard, touchpad - at least, where it counts for ME).

Also, I agree with TheUndertow - that IS way too much money for the specs compared to other similar notebooks, AFAIK. But configure it at ISTNC:

    $1415.00

That is what I believe to be a very reasonable price :D , and with this price the Z62f is a GREAT deal (although I'm personally configuring it with a 1-year warranty, since the way I see it, if it falls and breaks, you're not going to get your money back no matter what warranty you're under, and it's not likely to stop functioning out of nowhere after the first year - and I have the time to fiddle with it if it does ;) - this way it's $1245.00)

I don't know much about ProPortable or ISTNC, but I know they both have fantastic reputations. It's really up to you to do the research on which to choose - as far as I go, I'm going with "save $200.00 and go with ISTNC". I'm sure there's much to be said for going with ProPortable, so maybe in your case the extra $300.00 is justified. Although if you're spending $1700, make the leap to a W3J!

I actually did find a price discrepancy and it had to do with our warranty. Last year it was added in differently and changed in the fall.... now we do it a different way, however I believe there was an error by mistake, which is now corrected. I've issued a memo to credit the difference, which I believe is $100 to everyone who has already purchased the Z62f.

On a side note, the cost of the DDR2 667 came down a bit today, which should not reflect in that price. Also, we finally got a good sized shipment of the new Seagate 160gb/5400rpm drives... the perpendicular recording models... I've used one for about a month now and it's an awesome drive. Being able to write down into the disc is allowing larger sized drives, using the same physical size plates.... also, seagate claims an even more secure and hardy drive that can take even more bumps and bruises....
