I just built a Z96Js and I think it might be running a little hot so out of curiosity I'm starting this poll to see what everyone else is getting for idle temperatures. Maybe we all can learn ways to get our X96J's to run a little cooler!

Right now idling plugged in using NHC Dynamic Switching I'm getting about 63C

Of the people with lower temperatures <55C are you guys doing anything special to keep it cool other than P4G or NHC? I don't get why mine is running so hot!

Then yours 's running pretty hot I guess.. But nothing to worry, if planning for long gaming periods, than get a Zalman cooler :D If not, u can live with that temp I guess.

What processor are you using? Did you install the heatsink and processor yourself or did the reseller. If the reseller did the installation then I would be giving them a call. My Z96J has a T7200 and my idle temps range from ~50C - 52C. I installed everything myself and used arctic silver, but I am not convinced that the arctic silver makes that much of a difference. This is a longshot but have you made sure there is nothing running in the background that is using up some serious resources thus increasing the heat?

Mines a T2500 Core Duo, I check it with NHC but I don't do anything special and I only open NHC to check the temp/battery stats.

My idle is about 51-52, on High Performance (I usually use Quiet but I haven't checked w/that lately)

Yeah, I did install my T7200 (Core2 2.0) my self with AS5 even. I have tried doing it multiple times with thicker and thinner coats but no matter what way I do it there seems to be little impact on the idle core temperature which hovers a bit above 60C. I have actually even re-formatted thinking that maybe that might have been the problem but it still hasn't reduced my temperatures one bit (no big background processes either).

I broke down and decided to buy another heatsink module ($26 total) thinking mine might be somehow defective, but I mean other than that it seems like maybe theres large variation in processor idle temperature or maybe something to do with the motherboard its self?

Well go figure, I just got a new motherboard in my Z96Js because of powerplay problems and now I idle at 51C rather than 64C, nothing else different!! I think that different motherboards can make the processor different temperatures, I have observed it in desktops when I have swapped the motherboard too... Wierd
