I just got a second hand X73BY. Before I got it the computer was restored using the built in restore partition using F9.

Unfortunately Asus installs a lot a bloatware by default - in this case I have 12 shortcuts on the desktop for different software that I don't want.

I figured the best way to get a clean machine was to install Windows from a clean Windows cd instead of the restore partition.

I found a Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit) CD, booted and formatted the OS partition (and left the restore partition intact) and installed Windows.

So far so good. Windows installed correctly, I began installing drivers, first for AMD Fusion (chipset/graphics) and Wifi. After that I rebooted and suddenly Windows wouldn't boot.

By default the computer now boots into the Asus restore mode, so I can install Windows again with all the bloatware.

How come my clean Windows "disappeared"?

In BIOS the SATA mode is set to AHCI as it has always been.
In the boot tab there is two boot options: P0: ST9750423AS and P1: SlimtypeDVD A.

I have the option to add another boot option, but that requires the following:
Add boot option - here I can type something.
Select Filesystem - here I can only choose HD(Part1,Sig8054EADF)
Path for boot option - here I can type something.

Do I need to add another boot option? and what should I type in the fields?

Could someone tell me whats wrong, and how to proceed?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

    Forgot about the thread again.

Thank you for your help. Now Windows is working as it should.

But now it is NOT possible to restore using the F9 button - When I push F9 I get the normal menu, but the only thing to choose is the new Windows I installed.

Is there any way to keep my clean windows, but have the option to restore the full Asus image, if needed?

    Thanks!
