    This is something Ive wanted to do for the forum for a while.

    I dont have my laptop yet so I was going to wait for mine and do it myself first.

    What well try to do is compare all the models of asus notebooks, and then also show the stats of the lcd they use.

    Look under device Manager-->Monitor-->Plug n Play Monitor***-->Details Tab--> You will see the Device Instance ID's listed in the white box like this...
    DISPLAY\QDS005C\4&.....

    QDS is short for Quanta Display Systems
    AUO -> AU Optronics
    SEC -> Samsung
    LPL -> LG Philips
    CMO-> Chi Mei optoelectrics (optronics vs optoelectrics????)
    cpt-> Chungwa picture tubes
    hsd-> hann star
    sny->sony
    tos->toshiba

    What we need to see is the model number of your lcd. From that Ill look up what its stats are on the internet or you can do it yourself.

    edit
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/EVEREST_Free_Edition_d4181.html

    use this program if your model comes up ms 0000

    Id definitely like to see the stats of corialis' v6va because Ive heard different things and Id like to look it up. Then also the model number of the w2j,w2v, etc.... all of them basically. Lets see what brands of lcds asus has used in current and past models.
    I think when we get enough responses this will be very interesting and will deserve a sticky.

    I personally think there is general lack of knowledge on who makes lcd screens and what their stats are, even from the many asus dealers that come here. I think this will even be a useful advertising tool for them. I mean, if they dont know the difference between the v6js screen and the s96js screen other than to say its brighter, how can they try to sell it?

    And let me clear something up...

    Asus has never made an lcd screen.
    Just like all these brands dont make the chassis which asus happens to, all of these brands buy their lcds from one of the above companies. big ones missing are sharp fujitsu sony and toshiba from that list. If someone wants to add their codes I think that would help complete things as well.

    anyhow heres the first one, asus a8js

    AUO B141PW01 v2

    ok something might have to be worked on.

    We may need to have everyone use everest.

    I think your notebook is supposed to say sharp but i have no link to that model

    ok nm your monitor is made by lg phillips I am working on its stats because there is no 0000

    you are missing the model number. I may have to get back to this and tell you all the program you need to run and link it in the first post.

    I was going to say... they're forgetting Hann Star and Toshiba.... as Hann Star's have been used on a majority of the W series this year and Toshibia has made the super thin panel that's on the W7.

    My W2JB has a CMO N170C1-L02.
    It's a Q1 2006 screen which is similar to the Q2 version.
    The Q3 version has much better specs, but is almost 300 grams heavier.
    What's up with that?

    I still want to see the number on the v6va

    I know the manufacturer is lg phillips now but I dont see any stats on it.

    the w3j screen is not for sale at cmo anymore but it has the same stats as this one.
    http://www.cmo.com.tw/cmo/english/product/showproductn.jsp?size=14.1

    I said toshiba but i didnt say hans star. So how would you compare the hans star screen thats in the v6j to the cmo in the w3j?

    and older models would be good too because then we can see if things changed. Id like to see the w2v

    a big seller we havent seen is the model for the w7j

    If you know it's made by LG Philips, then it's the LP150E05. That's the only 15" model they have with IPS. Here are the stats (it's the one on the right):

    ok well thats obviously it. Only how many other v6va owners do we have to verify it?

    so its brightness is actually 200 nits, the same as the v6j screen.

    But Im almost positive no one has said that the a8jm and w3j screen is significantly brighter than the v6j or v6 va screen.

    Thats why this information is going to be really enlightening when its gets complete and organized.

    Because user reviews of lcd screens are worth next to nothing unfortunately.

    ok because its a 15.0 inch display its no longer for sale.

    you need to find its actual manufacturers code and ill tell you the stats. see above everest tells you.

    http://www.screentekinc.com/Chunghwa-CLAA150PB03.shtml

    ok this is the model number of the cpt screen used in the v6j

    manufacturers stats I couldnt get but that should be all you need to start googling it.
    Im sure its listed stats are exactly the same as the hann star screen but you never know.
    You will notice that this one wholesales for a lot more than the other one. which is more recent?

    I must note that the quality of this screens stats are way out of character as it has 200 nits, 25 ms response time, low contrast stats. It is actually out of manufacture bottom end lcd circa about 2 years ago. As I pick up more data I think well learn more.

    It is indeed below the stats of even the cheapest cpt screen they sell today.

    Well try powerstrip.

    I think thats interesting in itself.

    However I actually think hiding the display model is something your graphics driver is doing and I think you and coriolis are probably using the same drivers and its a coincidence.

    i searched all over for a 14.1 WXGA+ screen with good viewing angles, and it doesn't exist.

    I have a A8Js with the AUO panel.

    The other compatible ones are

    LG Phillips: LP141WP1
    Samsung: LTN141WD

    They all have the same specs. The only difference is that the LG has 90/50 Viewing Angles and the Samsung has 200Nits brightness.

    Here are the links if you are intrested:

    http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeContain/jsp/kor/prd/prd301_j_k.jsp

    If any of you can find a WXGA+ 14.1 with good angles please post. :)

    A8Js bought in Spain, AUO1247. Not very happy with dark colors, leakage and low viewing angles. I also dont find it bright enough. Not sure if its enough to return the laptop, since in all reality the specs vs the price I paid are amazing, and love the high res.

    Hello All,

    My A8JS has the LG-Philips LP141WP1-TLA2 panel. I like this panel quite a bit more than the AUO panel that I removed. The LP141 has much better contrast, colour fidelity and viewing angles...

    C---

    No Asus involvement at all... I bought the LG at Smart Micro, here:

    http://smartmicrousa.com/item.asp?cID=82&PID=1868

    Total cost was $224.00USD. To be honest, I was only pretty sure that it would fit; it is a perfect match except for the inverter. The task took me about 25 minutes. Be advised, this is not for the faint of heart! It will void your Asus warranty and the warranty on the new LG LCD. The results, are in my opinion, worth it.

    Hope this helps!

    I must say that i am very happy with the lcd. super sharp, no light leakage as I can tell, and the viewing angle is real good in my opinion.
