This should be in the other forum but all my choices are Asus so i might just post here.

I used to have a z63a but it is now in the hands of some *******
Well personally, I thought it was just a bit too heavy and the screen was kinda small (i like 4:3 better)

I need something similarly priced so i have been thinking about:
z62j - have to settle with the weight and screen size for duo core and graphics
z96j - have to settle with the weight and resolution and i have no idea on the price...

a6jc - good in every aspect except weight

Are there any other models to consider? I might consider the V6J too (which i consider is the perfect machine for me) if I can gather enough cash

if you found the z63a too heavy.. then naturally the z62j will be bout the same and z96j will be even heavier.. and none of them are 4:3.

the w7j (to which is uncertain if it will come state side).. should be lighter than the Z63a, have a core duo, and dedicated graphics.

the V6va has had its price reduced recently, so try look around for some resellers who have it.. you might even find some one with the v6v too! that should be alot cheaper by now.

Unfortunately, the V6 is probably one of the lightest Asus models out there, although the W3 might be similar (haven't looked at the spec sheets lately). Weight only goes up with the larger screen sizes, obviously, although I guess the Z35 might be lighter based on overall size as the new 13.3" entry. For 4:3 you're limited to the W5 and V6 for currently available models.... The more important decision might be what you anticipate needing graphics-wise and then look at form factor/size from there; dual core is where you want to be now, though. The Z96 is supposed to be coming with SXGA screen, too when released. Ensemble models are going to put you in a different price range if you're looking for Z63 area pricing.

Since when Is the W5 a 4:3 ratio model??? I'm 99.9% sure the W5 series has always been widescreen. The S5a and M5 models were/are 4:3 If you can find any, but they're based on older chipsets/technology. :)

You are correct... "W" has always been Asus' designator code for their high-end widescreen offerings. I knew that, someplace in the depths of my conscious mind. my bad. sorry. :(

I would personally - I like the look of it a little better also.

I'm more of an Ensemble guy myself - the A6jc is a great bargain for what you get - plus 1x1GB RAM is pretty uncommon, especially for a $1,300 laptop.

Weight is a really subjective concept for people, I think, and 1 pound can be a big difference over time. How far are you going to be carrying it every day? In a shoulder bag with one strap, or backpack with two over the shoulders? What else are you likely to carry with it in the bag (i.e. books, business supplies), or adding the power brick? I typically try to keep my briefcase fairly light when I'm travelling with mine, because I was surprised how much the total weight adds up with the other stuff I need to carry too.

The footprint isn't always that different, but the 15.4 screen (to me) seems much larger and not as "portable" but more in the DTR category. Plus, in the A6jc you'll still be getting Wxga resolution in a larger screen which bothers some and not others (but works fine in the 14" screen, I think).

The A6jc is a lot of bang for the buck and is a solid choice - but will you love your notebook as much if you uncomfortable with lugging it around every day? The seemingly endless choices and factors to weigh in making such a decision drove me crazy.

I, too, generally prefer the Ensemble look (which is why I went with the Z63 right before the Z62 came out, despite the single core proc - and I didn't need the graphics power or battery drain of the ati card in the W3). I would suggest that you'd probably be best served to think about what you want to use it for on a regular basis and then go from there. Good luck!
