My sister is about to buy a notebook for college. It'll either be a Thinkpad or possibly an Asus. I'm not sure what to buy, however.

    What she wants:

-Small Form Factor: From 12-14". Widescreen or not, doesn't matter. Preferrably matte, but not a deal killer.
-Stylish: some of the Asus models seem to look a bit bland, others total lookers. She would like a looker if at all possible.
-Lightweight: nothing too heavy, 4-5lbs if at all possible.
-Long battery Life: a lot of Asus reviews seem to suggest that the high quality graphics card results in a short battery life. She doesn't game at all, so anyway to turn the GPU to like, Adaptive or something would be great for increased battery life.
-Accessories: DVDRW, 60GB+ HDD, Wifi, 1GB Ram
    -Would LOVE XP over Vista.

Asus is an option because they're durable, stylish, and well-built. I would love some suggested models as for where to start. Even better if they have NotebookReview Reviews here!

    Thanks so much.

Get her an ASUS W5F. It's white, it's cool, and, right now, it's incredibly cheap, if you check the "dancebabe" post. Just search on the word.

Eh, would rather not buy on eBay. Unfortunately the size seems a tad too small anyhow.

What was that model that was aluminum, 14" Core Duo? W7J maybe? Something along those lines might be nice. Any thoughts?

    um

try out z35 I think you are thinking of. w7j doesnt actually get very good battery life.

w3j can have 2 batteries though. That might be what you mean the aluminim lcd lid. Its discontinued and the only place i know that has it is milestonepc.com

You may want to post what knid of price range she wants.

V2 should be one of the best options for looks, (grey...sorry not white for girls :( ), it is well built, has a dedicated GPU so she wouldn't be graphically hindered, and great estimated battery life. Comes witha 6 and 9 cell battery, plus a 6 cell multi-bay battery. Estimates a mininum 5 hours of battery life with 9 cell and 6 multi-bay. (we don't know yet till we test it)

Another option is the z35F, this is definitely a looker, a decent notebook all round and is affordable.

Also girls do like the W5 series since it offers great features and looks.

only the w3j gets the aluminum lid, but it may be a little too much firepower for your sister, and gets average battery life b/c of what is under the hood. not to mention that the model is discontinued, so you'll have to search around for it.
