    Hi everyone,

I'm about to buy a W3v and I know it's very important to buy it from a reliable source. I live in Toronto and I know 2 places that sell them (CanadaComputers and PacificNotebook), but does anyone know if they're reliable or not? My friend was going to buy a notebook from PacificNotebook and apparently she saw this guy arguing with the store clerk, saying that he bought a notebook there with certain parts, but when he opened it up himself he couldn't see the parts he paid for.
Personally, I've bought miscellaneous computer parts from CanadaComputers, and they offer great prices, but my advice is KEEP your receipts, because they don't keep a copy themselves, and if you want a refund or exchange, read the fine print on the receipts because they charge a "stocking fee," so even if your parts are good, if you return it to them, you won't get full refund. But I've never bought a laptop from them before, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience dealing with CanadaComputers in the laptop area.

Anyway, that's all from me for now.
    I appreciate help

    Oh hey, and guess what?
Now that CanadaComputers is having an Asus show this week in Toronto, they've decided to increase their prices!
    Lovely.

I'm not too sure about PCCom and Pacific Notebooks, however, I've window shopped at PN quite a bit :p

They dress fairly businesslike, so I'm getting a good feeling towards them however, they can't eally sell for beans. The one I spoke with made me feel really smart, I asked about the z71v(why? Don't know...) and I knew more about it reading from these forums! Also, they seem to be quite biased towards students, or people under the age of 25~30, such as if we are a waste of time..

Then again, that's what I felt, and it was towards only one salesperson.

However, I trust CanadaSys quite well, Although I haven't done anything with them, I know people who did, and they all say Joseph is the man! The Markham location one, Warden/Steeles, is the best of the 3 locations they have...

CanadaSys also matches prices, just email them another price from another store, and they're match it. It's just that they are pretty slow on getting new models, the z71v took almost a month before they had it, other GTA resellers had em for quite a while..

I'm waiting for them to have the w3v in stock, and i'll see if they can sell it for a bit under 2200, and I'll prolly go for them.

Unless my cousin in HK can update me on the price of a Samsung x50 first [ :p]

I just called in to ask if Pacific Notebooks had the W3V in stock...
    http://www.pacificnotebooks.com/index.php?brand=1
Even though it says *** In Stock ***, they're actually still waiting on it. They said they'll have it from their supplier any day now. -_-"

Oh... lucky I got the only W3V at Canada Computers (P-mall) last Saturday when the price was still $2199 [^], didn't expect it'd go up!

    Thanks so much, coriolis
That's exactly what I needed to know.
So it looks like I'm gonna get mine from CanadaSys.
Cagaline, you lucked out and got it from CanadaComputers before they jacked up the price, but how do you feel about their service?

CanadaComputers has been fine on everything I've bought from them to date..(I haven't spent more than $600 on one item with them though.) I must say they've pissed me off a few times lately on the phone...I specifically called and confirmed the price on the W3V with them on two occasions and one of the times I asked for confirmation that the price wasn't going to be raised before the showcase (based on information I had gained from these forums)...because I was waiting to see the models in person before I purchased my W3V. On another occasion they gave me wrong information regarding the W3V and W5a, even after I specifically asked them to physically confirm a few things...I attribute both "problems" i've had with them to "new" poorly trained incompetent and ignorant employees...an excuse that only goes so far in my mind. The pricing issue is one that will show the company's true colours as far as I'm concerned. I'm confident after I'm through talking with them that they'll be honoring the $2199 price I had confirmed. If they don't honor that price, I'll never buy anything from them again...and I'll be the first to point out their behavior to future customers.

If they do honor the lower pricing, I'll have nothing but positive experiences with them as far as actual purchases are concerned. As far as reliability and security goes once you've made a purchase, none of the other Canadian company's listed above, in my opinion, come close. Just so It's clear, up until now, aside from giving me poor and misleading information over the phone, they've been really good in person and with everything I've ever actually purchased from them. I'll let you know how they "handle" the pricing issue this weekend. Calvabunga, I don't know where you live, but you should really check out the ASUS showcase this Fri. and Sat. at Canada Computers North York location...and then make your purchase/decision...It's like two days away, so If you're close enough, you should really hold off and attend. Hope that helps you a little. [8D]

I've bought things from there several times, they DO have really good prices. As far as their services go... I'll say decent. The people there are "cool", don't talk much, either you buy it or not, haha. I personally don't really mine that since I hate those who talk a lot. They usually won't let people open the item unless you're really buying it, but for some reason my W3V box was open when the guy showed it to me, he said a lot of people requested to look at it.. and one of the screws for the memory cover came off and I saw it inside the plastic bag, good thing I have good eyes and didn't lose that tiny screw. I do a lot of research before I buy things, so I didn't ask them anything. Oh also, that guy said if I see any dead pixel, I could bring it back within 3 days. It's passed 3 days, and so far I don't see any, hehe.

I also got a 512 memory from there to go with my W3V too.

I'm anxious to know how the pricing issue went, CalibratedComa. Were you able to get it for the original price?

I want to know how the showcase went. Since I'm not in TO at the moment I wasn't able to attend, but I really wanted to. Did any of you guys go?

That's brutal. Just reaffirms for me that we desperately need a good, reputable ASUS dealer in Canada.

I did. Nothing spectacular to be honest. 2 guys with the following:
    - 1 espresso box that I didn't pay any attention to
    - 1 w3v with a broken touchpad
    - 1 z71a that didn't have video drivers installed so it was running @ 1024x768 res and you couldn't change that
    - 1 a6 (I think, I didn't bother with it either)

also, they did have a v6v they took out of the box for me to take a look at, but it had unregistered copy of Winblows so even though they turned it on for me, all I got to see was one blue screen...

no z70 that I wanted to see

oh and, as far as CanadaComputers goes, I'm only familiar with the College location- I bought a couple of HDDs, one OEM cpu long time ago, and some CDs from them... and to be honest I wouldn't have any confidence in them with any bigger purchase. The best store down there is Filtech if you ask me.

CanadaSys should be a good ASUS dealer, just that they are very very very slow in updating, and always seems to order their stuff last...

Pacific Notebook is a store I'm wary of buying from, heard alot of negative feedback, but those are all 'stories from a friend of mine, etc.' They aren't very responsive with emails, everytime I email them with, 4-5 paragraphs, with various questions, they often answer it in one sentence, ot sometimes even one word.

I remember getting a, 'Soon' once, and a 'New stock'

However, PN updates their site at least once every two days, sometimes every 2-3 times a day!
