I'm stuck between them both, like many on this forum, and I want to settle on something. I'm gonna get one or the other for xmas.

I want to know what makes the W3V so special, I mean, it has a slower processor, weighs 450gms more, has a smaller hard drive and less RAM (both of which I know can be upgraded easily), but the Sony S5XP just seems great, let's forget about price for the moment, I want to concentrate on how well the laptops run, if weight makes a difference, the build quality, issues for both of them, etc.

So if you have the experience, would you mind writing a small review/comparison list or summary up, por moir.

    Thank you.

Here's a quick answer and is not sarcastic at all..... If you want a Sony, go and get it. If you need someone to convince you to get an Asus, then you're looking for a scapegoat incase you regret the purchase. Search for yourself and make up your own mind... it's honestly the only way you're going to convince yourself you want it. In the end, you're making the decision to purchase whatever it is you end up wanting and it is entirely your responsibility.

    I have both..

both are often compared, but the W3V is a significant increase in size from the S, and about 1lb more in weight. (Asus lists it at 4.8 but its more like 5.4)

I like the w3v's hidden shortcut keys and the screen is brighter and cooler color temperature, and the keyboard feels better

build quality, both are excellent, although the sony seems more durable since the color isnt "painted on" like the asus

the S5XP has a rather huge AC adapter, but the asus has generic big/long power cords while the sony short/ custom molded small ones

So basically the Asus W3V is really heavy, where as the Sony is much lighter and has better specs.

Tell me about the 16:9 ratio problem with the Sony, apparently you can't run some games?

Im not sure about the sony screen, but for the w3v and all widescreens in general they dont really benefit the playing of games. Usually games are made to fit in a standard ratio screen and when played on widescreens they look stretched out and distorted. There is a solution to this though, widescreen users may opt to have black bars on the side of their screen and enjoy a non-distorted, non-stretched image while gaming. Basically, when gaming on widescreens you may have to put up with black bars on the sides (much like when you watch movies on a regular ratio screen) but you really don't notice it unless you specifically look for it.

I tried both the Sony S and an Asus Z63a (which is like the w3v but with out the discrete graphics). I like the looks of the latter as well as the keyboard. the Sony S's keyboard is not full size and I'm not a fan of it's arc'ed trackpad buttons. It is significantly lighter than the Asus though.. As for screen, I enjoyed both and would say they're about equal. How bout you wait till Orijin get's his.. he writes good reviews and will be getting an S series to replace his Asus w3v.

I haven't kept up with the pricing..but the Asus w3v offers better pricing for what you get.

We have been discussing this subject for weeks. Go and buy the Sony. I am sure you will like it. Sony needs your money to help pay the costs associated with its problematic CD copy protection software.

That sort of advice isn't going to help me, and yes, I have been discussing it for weeks, £1000+ is alot of money to waste on something you don't know all the facts on.
