    Sup Asus-Crowd,

I recently returned my Alienware M15X and am going to use the return money to switch on over to a W90vp-A1 (Which is literally a bit cheaper than what I paid for my M15x..yet obviously loads better).

I was curious to know where the best place to order it from would be? In terms of customer service, reliability, shipping costs, and all that jazz.

    Thanks! :)

GenTechPC is one of the most trusted Asus reseller in the States. Myself and Vicious (another NBR reviewer) as well as many others can vouch for their superior customer support. If you have any technical issues, Gentech will be there at your beck and call.

Actually went ahead an ordered the X1 instead, since I'm a gamer. I know there's a whole big-to-do over the A1 vs X1 in terms of gaming, but I felt if I want to go Quad I'll just upgrade later. (At least I hope I can. Someone said you could upgrade the X1 to Quad.)

However, one thing I was really interested in was the Bluray drive in the A1. Alas, the X1 doesn't come with it. I got a bunch of Bluray movies, so is there any place I can get a compatible drive for the W90? Or will just any slim ones from Newegg do?

You can upgrade to a quad on the X1, but you'll loose your warranty by doing so. The type of blu-ray drive that will fit in the W90 is a 12.7mm SATA. Most notebook blu-ray drives are 12.7mm, so you shouldn't have a problem with that, but there are some 9.5mm floating around and some with IDE interface which you should avoid; so just a word of caution....

Thanks so much for the info, David =). One last question, then I'll be outta your hair haha. I understand that, yea, upgrading myself would void the warranty. Does ASUS offer any upgrade service instead? If I choose to upgrade within my warranty period, that is.

With the X1 model, the only thing you can upgrade is the warranty. You have a 2 year warranty, and an extended 3rd year can be purchased for an additional $100-$120 (depending on where you buy the warranty). You'll also need to activate the extended warranty within 90 days of your notebook purchase.

My A1 review shows every game playing the same on the A1 at stock clocks as the X1 except crysis, but I still managed 40fps average maxed out DX9 :p

I got that little quad up to 2.85 ghz so far and I broke the ATI overdrive limits just a while ago and its stable at 610/955 and may go higher.

All in all I say the A1 is just as good a gaming machine as the X1 but a more capable machine for many other things.
