Very nice... if I hadn't purchased the A8Jm, I would be tempted to look at this for the price :)

Completely unrelated, but since Fremont is only about half an hour away, think I can come up and take a look at and possibly buy a W3J? Also when will you open?

    What's up,
Wow now that price guarantee (with pre-order) will make some people very happy! Is there a big tax for buying something from Canada and having it shipped to the US?
    Thanks,
    Jake

MilestonePC is now in CAnada and in USA, Cali, Fremont, so you don't have to pay taxes in Cali, also there are no customs or hidden taxes :D

    I say dive into the pre-order. :D

    Thanks,

If you live in California and purchase from Milestonepc then I believe you have to pay taxes. If you live in any other state then California then you don't pay taxes.

    Most other states have tax?

Or do i have everything backwards?

    Thanks,

You'll probably have to talk to Danny to find out how pre-orders are handled to the US... if they are. His US presence may open before W7J's arrive.

I *think* the tax thing works like this...
Before Danny is set up in the U.S., if he ships to U.S. you've got Canadian taxes to pay, not sure about customs (btw, different vendors handle this differently... you may need to talk to Danny directly). He may not ship to the US from Canada at all because I bet it's a hassle.

If he's set up a business in Fremont, and you buy from him in CA, then you pay CA sales tax. If you buy from any other state, no sales tax.

There are other scenarios for people who live close/travel to Canada.

    i feel your pain.

thats a real decent price for a 13.3, but will be a bit of competition against the macbook for those who dont need the dedicated video.

California has sales tax, probably one of the highest next to NY. (8.25%, 7.75% in some areas.)

If the company is in California, or has a subsidary in California, AND you reside in California and order online, then you pay tax. (like sales tax.)

If the company is in California, or has a subsidary in California, AND you do not reside in California and order online, then you DO NOT pay tax.

I believe this is the same for every state. They can't tax you over the internet for out of state sales.

    What's up,
Yeah I figured you can't really get around sales tax here in California especially when he has a business here in the state. Still a great price though even if you do have to pay sales tax! Thanks for the clarification Naszero!

$1499 that sounds too good to be true. In Taiwan, It goes for around $1600USD. And in Taiwan Asus notebooks are usually $200-500 cheaper than in the US. For example, the A8jm sells for around $1250 here, in the US - $1500. The W3j is $1300 here, US - $1700-$1800. So MilestonePC, has Asus confirmed the price yet for the W7j? You might want to be careful about this pre-order stuff. Otherwise you might lose a ton of $. :p

I just wanna buy a W7J, your price is kind of too good to be true.cause all the other stores sell it for $1799. Are you sure that you can give it to me for $1499?
If you can promise, I will order it right now.I am in canada now but I can pay you by U.S dollar. And also, one more question , if the cost goes up like the other guys said so,will you charge me the differents by the time I take the notebook? I just wanna make sure cause this price is really low!

Both of our Canada and US site are taking orders for that W7J now, as I mentioned before, if it is firm order, I will deliver at your order price, if it turns out too low, I will eat the loss, if one day I realize that price is too low, I might raise the price, but it won't affect firm orders placed before I raise the price ( If we really raise the price ), if the price goes lower than $1499 when it is available, you will get the difference bcak, you are protected, you always win, sounds good?

If you are in canada, to order from Canada site will be easier to handle:
    http://www.milestonepc.com/canada/product_info.php?cPath=187_87_82&products_id=1267

If you really want to buy from US, then visit:

OK, I already sent a firm order to milestonepc.com. Hope I can get this notebook soon!

I fully agree with you and also I think the price that they charge for the customize notebook is great. I asked the other stores before, they said I need to keep the original parts and pay the full price for the parts that I upgrade. That's a lot!!

That's a cool little machine for sure, especially for the price.

I'd buy one before I would buy a Dell xps1210, or a Sony sz...not a flame towards dell and sony owners, I'm just really impressed with the overall quality of my w3j, and would purchase Asus again! :D

Right now, I do feel our price is a little low, I will raise the price slightly higher late today. I don't raise it now because I want to leave enough time for people who asked me about W7J before for the chance to order at old prices.

I already sent e-mail to them, I told them about this because they have asked about this model before and it is not good for me to raise the price without letting them know.

Good idea about the price. You wouldn't want to loose too much money. ;) I'm no expert, but my guess would be $1699 will be the going price for one of these.

The W7J has 512MB of RAM soldered onto the motherboard, and one regular slot where you can replace the RAM. So, you could theoretically upgrade it to 2.5GB of RAM if you bought a 2GB stick, but it would be very expensive.

Also, according to Justin, all of the current Asus notebooks have their CPU in a socket (not soldered). So, you'll probably be able to upgrade to Merom in the future. But no one is promising anything until they try it out.

right now it is somewhat safe to assume Merom will work 100% with all tools and features, but the thing is no one has done it yet, because it's not out yet.

If you intent is to buy a Yonah notebook now, and then upgrade to Merom later, it's a wise choice, but don't be dissapointed if reports come in and say merom doesn't work well with Yonah's Napa platform, which is the same as Merom's Napa Platform.

But so far everything looks good for a merom upgrade when the time comes :D

The W7J is one awsome machine!!

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem
