I just ordered the W3V and am really looking forward to it. I was thinking of picking up the 2nd battery which goes in the optical bay but was wondering how long, in general, it can increase the battery life. Is it easy to swap in and out?

Well, the 2nd battery is a 6 Cell compared to the 8 Cell that's in the W3v (at least in the US). If you have the 8 Cell, the 6 Cell will then give you 75% of the life you're already getting with the main 8 Cell.

So, if you're getting 4 hours with the main 8 Cell, then you're get 3 more hours with the 6 Cell in place... or a total of 7 hours. The battery in the W3v is hot swappable.... very easy.

I get about just over 4 hours with the 8 cell, with the 2nd battery plugged in I max out at about 6 hours 45min. this is on office/email mode. probably about 7 hours in battery saving mode, but I normally don't run that way so i have yet to test it.

Well that's about right.... I'm just giving you an average of what you should get......... the cells capacity does slightly range, so your life isn't going to be a perfect 75% of the other battery.

I got my w3v last week, put it up and i get 5 hours off the 8 cell battery. It has a lot to do with your CPU, i have my P4 M 533 1.6ghz, and normally if you are not running any CPU intensive application, the OS would just set the speed to about 800mhz. Also turn your LCD brightness down, that will save your battery too.

Once i get my 2nd battery, i am estimating to have about 8hrs uptime if i do office work or online surfing. And about 4hrs if i play games on it (warcraft3, or even WOW hehe...)

I thought the W3V only came with the 1.86?

anyways, office/email mode keeps the processor at 800mhz. What else are you doing to cut back on battery use? you using just power4 or CHC?

ahh, that explains a little bit. The X600 is pulling more power then the integrated. Cool, that your's is still able to run games.
