Hey everyone. I'm new to this forum and I wanted your opinions for which is a better machine. I know there was a similar thread posted before but I was hoping you guys have some fresh input. I know that both are nearly identical except for the screen (SXGA+ for V6v vs.WXGA for W3v), S-video output for W3v and also different ram configurations. I am leaning towards the W3v because it has 128MB graphics card vs. 64MB. It's weird because before I thought W3v also has 64MB. Is it only in Canada? What do u guys think?? Also, why is the W3v so much more popular than the V6v? Is it the color shine widescreen?

Well Charles, I has to say it, but you're wrong.

    1. The ram configurations are now the same, sort of... as long as the dealer who has the V6 has one thats under a month old... They both have 1 stick of 512mb ..... the W3 is 533 and the V6 is 400.

    2. Both have the same video card and Canada certainly doesn't have any special treatment.... Both cards are 64mb and use "hyper memory" which can use some of your system memory to boost peroformance.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Hi Justin. Thanks for clarifying things, I thought they were the same. Just that the Asus site showed the V6v having the ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ X600 64MB graphics processor and W3v with the ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ X600 128MB HyperMemory™ Technology, PCI Express Graphics Processor. So I guess both have 64MB dedicated? Thanks.

Chucks, have you ever considered the Z70V? It is also Asus, also uses the ATI x600 with 64 dedicated and 64 from system memory.. but is much more configurable than both the W3 and V6 because it is a "built on" model. It'll probably be cheaper too. But it's not a glossy screen (that is if you like those types of screens).

V6 has a matte screen, they both weight almost the same with 8 cell battery, although you have more screen estate on V6 (15" 4:3 ratio) as it's a larger notebook.Personally, I like the design of V6 better and I find 14" widescreen too small, but it really depends how you intend to use your notebook. If you can't find a demo at the dealer, I think Justin posted somewhere a photo of side by side comparison...

The V6 physically has an inch and a half more screen on the top... so that does help a lot of people. I posted a link to those side by side shots on our main ensemble page off of the notebook page... I'd link it right now, but I know our servers are down for some work... but go to our site, go to notebooks, click on the ensembles and there should be a link right there.

If you want regular ratio and a matte screen.... that's hard to pass up..... you can even read the review they did here.

    Thanks,
    Justin
