um, the macbook does not have a dedicated gpu...the w3v will kill it gaming wise, and with the addition of virtual memory in the newest BIOS update, it also uses hyper technology to gain more video power. screw the macbook, overrated/overheated garbage :)

The W3v ftw. The Macbook is a overpriced crotch heater ;)

Depends on the price difference since your needs are not demanding. If you've used the Mac OS in the past go with the MacBook because you could use it to run OS X and Windows using either Parallels ( www.parallels.com) or BootCamp. I will say that waiting a month to buy a MacBook might make sense, seeing a lot of manufacturing issues right now IMHO. The W3V is a good choice and a popular one for good reason, I think you'll pay a bit more than the $1099 you can get the MacBook for though -- I may be wrong.

btw, asking this in the Asus forum won't net you any Apple recommendations I don't think ;)

You know even though we are alittle bias in here. I think most people in the asus forum know alot about pcs. and because of that they can appreciate what other good brands there are. Because asus isnt the only good one. It all depends what they want how much they want to spend. if looks are important or not.

Well, alot of us here are actually unbias, but whatever hehe.

Macbook vs W3V or W3J there's a thread some where about it, long one too.

Do a quick search on it.

But here's basically what i said.

If your gonna game buy the W3V or W3J, it is still thin and light, and has a modular bay for extend batterylife.

Now the Macbook does have a smaller screen, thinner and lighter, can run both Windows and Mac OS. Which benefits many. The batterylife is good for the Macbook too.

If i din't game, the clear winner is the Macbook.

If i do game the clear winner is the W3V or W3J.

Also the W3v and W3J are more expensive than the Macbook.

I hope the Macbook gets quickly refreshed with Merom and a dedicated GPU and bam, it would be the MOST popular portable gaming unit yet!

Right now the W3J is the best portable gaming unit, along side with the Fujitsu model and one other i can't remember =\.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

You said movies made with a digi cam. Are you planning on edting them? If so, go with the MacBook hands-down. It doesn't sound like you need a video card or Windows, so I still say MacBook because it will be cheaper than both the w3v and w3j, unless there has been a dramatic price drop on the w3v (possible).

Let us not forget that ASUS is currently manufacturing the Macbook and that says a lot for ASUS's past reputation of building laptops.

I am a proud owner of a Z33a myself and have had a few problems here and there (broken combo drive and HD noise problems), but I am still a fan of my machine.

Anyways the W3V/W3J is in a different class than the Macbook because of its dedicated GPU. The W3V/W3J also has a dual layer DVDRW (if I am not mistaken) as opposed to only a standard DVDRW option on the Macbook. Also consider the number of USB ports and if having a card reader/PCMCIA slot is important to you.

If you are willing to compromise some size and are not set on using Mac OS X as your primary OS, I would say go for the W3J if you do not mind the higher price. If you are interested in experimenting with OSX you can always run it (albeit illegally) on your W3J and the X1600 should have QE/CI support out of the box.

If you have your heart set on OSX than maybe a Mac is for you. Weigh how much you think you'll use OSX, whether it is a necessity out of box or just an interest and consider what types of games you will be playing.

When I was searching for a laptop a year ago I was trying to decide between the Z33a and W3v. Looking back on it, it was still a very tough decision to make, but i went with my original plan and got an ultraportable because it fit my needs. Sometimes I wish I had a ded. gfx card, or atleast the ability to upgrade my memory, but the size/weight of the Z33a is what really drove my decision.

Figure out what is post important to you use that as the main decision factor. If you focus on too many things and are in search of the "perfect" laptop you may not find what your looking for in either machines.
