Hey guys, I'm having this problem charging my battery on my Asus and was wondering if anyone knew of any way to rectify the situation. Recently I had a short blackout in my neighborhood, when the power came back on I noticed that the charging status light would stay lit. I also observed the percentage capacity rate to slowly drop over a period of time; the battery is at 95% now.

I don't have the computer hooked up to a UPS or anything of that nature so could have the sudden surge of electrical power shorted out something in the battery? Should I drain it all the way and recalibrate it? Buy a new battery? Any help is appreciated.

Battery? Sounds more like your power adapter went bad. Try recharging it with the system off, see if it actually completes the recharge cycle.

Have you recently updated the ATK0100 ACPI Utility driver?

AlexF - I'm pretty sure my AC Adapter is fine. If I deplete the battery to around 50% it will restore it to about 92%.

Starchild - Nope. Haven't installed anything new on this laptop in awhile.

Sounds like your battery isn't reporting the correct state (discharging, fully charged, etc). Use the Battery Calibration utility in the BIOS.

Anything I should do in preparation of the battery calibration, as in discharging the battery or anything like that, or do I just simply start it up and wait?

I have the same problem with my W3N.
I think the reason is the faulty batteries Asus was putting on this laptops.
My battery doesn't even lasted 2 years. Really shamefull.

Pretty much start it up and wait. Make sure you start it before heading to bed, because the whole process may take several hours (depending on how good/bad your battery degradation is).

Can't agree more. I have an W3V and the battery is almost done and I've had it for 14 months (13th month when it started going downhill bigtime).

Yea, it's a shame with what's going with these batteries; this problem will most likely deter me from buying another Asus.

But how much is a typical battery expected to last? I was under the impression that most notebook batteries will be pretty much dead in around 2 years, given a normal pattern of usage (i.e. they are sometimes used, not just kept inside the AC-plugged laptop).

Right. That's based on an average of number of discharges of the battery in a 2-3 year period including the deterioration of the cells ability to hold charge. The number of maximum 400-500 discharges from an average Li-on battery. Now in my case, my battery has been used for 14 months which equals to 425 days in total. For my battery to completely wear down to it's current state of 10 mins usage , I would need to discharge my battery to 0% every single day from the day of purchase. Now in reality, I probably only discharged it 30-40 times tops during these past 14 months. Which really shows that this deterioration rate isn't normal.
