The Sony has smaller pixels and more of them (800 pixels vertical against the W3's 768). If your reading vision is not 20/20 then the slightly bigger pixels of the W3 may be better for all-day work.

I would put the build quality of both computers as similar and is good. The W3 is a bit heavier, which should mean more strength. The W3's fan is quieter than the Sony S2 that I once owned. Maybe this aspect has chenaged with the newer models.

The x600 card on the Asus is better than the 6200 go card on the Sony.

I'd go with the Asus, due to the fact that it's an Asus first of all, which means you're getting a very high quality, reliable notebook, and second of all, it has a better video card. ;)

Mr Paul, I too was in your exact same position. I even had it factored down to the exact same Sony, the S460. Having purchased the Asus, I would say hands down the W3V easily takes my vote any day.

I am extremely pleased with just about every corner of this notebook. It's got everything the Sony's got, and more! The biggest factor for me was 1 of two things. First off, Sony always has been and will be over-priced for what it's worth. Don't get me wrong though, I own plenty of Sony manufactured products, including a Sony 50" HDTV. I have always however managed to find something just as good if not better over Sony's cost.

The second factor is one I completely overlooked, which is that the Asus's build and overall physique is an eye-catcher everywhere I take it. At my college library, I've had plenty of people ask me about the W3V and where I purchased it. My cousin, who's got a Sony S260, even considered wanting to switch over to Asus after seeing it in person. Yea, it's that appealing!

Go with the Asus my friend, and do as I did: grab two wireless PC controllers, run Madden 2006 via S-video on an HDTV, and you'll think to yourself "Sony what-now?" ;)

Yes, the w3v is a sweet machine. But if you are thinking about getting the FS for a bigger screen, they do have one now with a 6400go which is comparable to the x600 on the Asus. But I think the Asus is hands down better looking. And less people have it so it would definately be an eyecatcher.
