After six happy years with my Tangerine iBook -I'm thinking of jumpin' ship and get an Asus W3V-H007P at £1020 (incl. of UK VAT of 17.5% tax).
1- As they were originally £1249 , is the £1020 cash price decent?
2- as I haven't seen one yet, (should be in the shop tuesday), I'm confused about the all important colour...
I can't figure out if it will be a grey-ish black with a black clicker or more coppery grey with a natural colour clicker. Important to me as i want the black version...
3- I won't be doing much "dual tasking" so I can't imagine how the W3J can be worth an extra £450?
    Am I missing something?

The W3v has the x600 card, which scores a 1500~1650 in benchmarks, while the W3j's x1600 should score 4000+. That's a major reason why the W3j is more expensive and is pretty popular here :)

It's actually more of a lighter colour, and yea, pictures don't tell anything unless you look at one up close. The price is about right though.

It's definitely going to be the lighter colour combo, sorry man...I prefer the darker look as well.

As far as price goes, I just did a currency conversion, that price would equal $2075.00 Canadian...and I can get the W3V at a local shop for $1499 Canadian after a $100 rebate. So basically $738 Pounds. I don't know If that helps you in anyway or not???

The current W3V is quite a powerful system for everyday tasks and won't disappoint. If you think It's a good deal for you, and you won't benefit from the W3J's Duo Core or increase in graphics card capabilities...then I'd say It isn't worth that much extra TO YOU. Is it at all possible you can find a better deal on the W3J when It comes out? Locally or abroad?...because If the price difference is say 150-200 Pounds more, It might make sense to have the latest and greatest for your money and the future.

Everyone is different. Like I've already said, I can get the W3V for what amounts to $1499 Canadian right now, and I'm willing to wait for the W3J for an approx. Canadian price of $2049. Roughly a $300 pound difference!!! But I'll really benefit from the productivity increase and higher end GPU. I also feel the newer technology will give me an extra year or so of usefulness, those three things combined are worth the extra $550 TO ME.

In the end It's all about you...your wants, your needs and your sense of value/budget. Good luck with whatever you decide. :)

The price for the UK seems about right (things are always more expensive), if your prepared to shop from france you could save yourself some cash though.
Depending on your needs you can pick up a w3 series from as low as about 1000euro which is about 300pounds less.
you can checkout some of the best online prices here. Also given that the w3j is only a few weeks away I would suggest shoping around for a good bargin online in the UK for older v models.

    Thanks for your replies.

£1020 is inclusive of the UK 17.5% tax
    or
    £868 + £152 tax = £1020
    £868 x 2.1 = $1822 CAD

    things are expensive here...

Where could I find info on all the W3v variation? I hope the "H007P" is not the black sheep of the family
    :D

    Raja,
I did all the shops on Tottenham Court Rd. (London) and only "MBA Technology" had them in stock. They have a few left, eventually the price was agreed to £999 cash. :)

Can't find their web site but here is some useful info:
    256 Tottenham Court Rd. London
    020 7323 9176
    My salesman's name was Asif.

    good luck
