    Edit: The attached configuration files for NHC do control the brightness [WLAN, BT and fan speed] and work for many, if not all, Asus notebooks, including the W3V :cool:

    Can someone please post the W3V ACPI configuration files for Notebook Hardware Control (NHC)? I have searched the forums with to no avail and the ACPI configuration files I found (attached) do not allow the LCD brightness to be controlled.

    The what and where? nhc does not control the brightness. Power4gear does which you should not use in conjunction with nhc. All you have to do is install the atk driver from the top of your autorun menu in the driver disk and use fn+f5/f6 to asjust the brightness manually

    Actually, as of verzion 2.0 it can control any of the ACPI functions that are normally handled by the ATK driver. You have to have a correctly wrriten control library for your model, though. Brightness, bluetooth on/off, wireless on/off, fan speed and temperatures at which it turns on..

    Right. Does anyone have the control library for a W3V?

    Is there a chance that using a (partially) incompatible control libary can permanently screw up your ASUS laptop ? Perhaps someone could write one also for F3Jc :p
    Starchild, download the attachment in the first post, it seems to have W3V support.

    Well, why ask for something that you have provided yourself (considering the time you posted the repeated request and edited your first post) ? Or am I misunderstanding something ?

    e: Sorry, my bad. You edited your first post today and posted the repeated request yesterday. :|

    works well, just had to rename all references in the two files from A6T to A6M to get it working.

    fan = veery quiet , just how i like it :)

    @rougemonk, place the files in the acpi filder where you installed NHC, restart, then look at the acpi tab in nhc.....

    That's what I thought. I guess it doesn't work for the W7J.

    Here is a list of notebooks for which these configuration files are designed M2N, A6T*, Z9201T, A7D, W1J*, W2V*, M6V*, M6Va*, M7V*, V6V, V6VA and W3V. Other notebooks may not be compatible, requiring editing of the configuration files.

    * These are still in "testing."

    It seems that brightness control is the same for all asus laptops, the rest of the controls is not, so it's best to disable rest.

    How to add your laptop it's quite easy:
    1. Download file
    2. in XML file add line:
    <Model name="W3J" location="MAINBOARD" class='W3J' file="ASUSTeK.cs" />
    With appropriate model name
    3. Harder part open cs file and copy one of the configs, i.e.,
    #region Notebook ASUS M2N : class M2N
    //
    // class author: Manfred Jaider
    //
    public static class M2N
    {
    ....... TILL THE END OF THE CLASS with:
    }
    //
    #endregion

    Change the first part according to your laptop model.

    Thats a little dangerous... wouldnt want to use a profile that wasnt intended for your notebook.... I used the A6T because its basically the same as my Z92m.... just renames all instances of the model name in question and replace it with mine.

    did i say how quiet my notebook is now! love it! fan only comes on at 48 degrees and not 24 like before.

    Give it a go though, and report back if you pull through

    I pooled this out for W3J, if you look closely in the file you will see that most use M2N method for controling brightness, disable rest of the modules.

    And for example fan control is different for W3J and W3V.
    And by default all modules except brightness should be disabled.

    Yeah ... that's where I got the ACPI configuration files that are attached in my thread starting post. I can confirm that the configuration file for the W3V works perfectly (LCD brightness, WLAN, BT and fan control). But there are also configuration files for...

    Hey, this is great. Thanks for the file. What about CPU speed adjustments? Are the ones I see waiting to be activated the ones that come with NHC, or are they part of your configuration setting?

    anyone know which model in the .cs file is closest to the A8Js? or if there are any A8js ACPI configuration profiles already made?
    i tried using the A6T profile, but im getting an error when i enable the fan settings.

    im also kinda confused on the RPM for fan settings..
    i know my fan runs around 3200rpm when cpu is slightly intensive, so what value would that be for NHC? 320?'

    thanks again

    FANs are the hardest thing to do, so don't think you can do it by simply editing these files....

    See Starchild's post top of this page for M2N question, then read back for the zip on p1 and the remainder of the thread has hints about how to do the install. Be careful, though.... the fan control sometimes has a tendency to disable the fan completely on occasion (for no apparent reason), so you want to keep an eye on your temps.

    RPM number is not always concordant with the setting, so you might have to trial&error it -- on my z63, when I was actually running the ACPI on it, the fan control was 110=2500rpm.

    >>What do you do with the files to make work?? In other words, what do I do once I have downloaded the zip file posted?
    ______________
    Here's what worked for me, with my Asus W3V:
    1) Go to the directory where you have Notebook Hardware Control installed. E.g. C:\Program Files\Notebook Hardware Control
    2) Create a new sub-directory called "acpi".
    3) Extract the zip file contents into the acpi directory.
    4) Exit the NHC app.
    5) Restart NHC. (you can do this by clicking on NHC.exe in its install directory.)

    ACPI should now work.

    I figured this out by reading
    http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc_advanced.htm#anchor_acpi_programming

    Thanks Starchild for the files.
