I was just watching movies on my w3j last night and this mornin' i went to boot it up and the screen went black. This has happened twice before and someone said it was static. I just removed the battery and let it sit for awhile. It doesn't seem to come back from the dead this time. I tried the vga out and got nothing this time. Any ideas? I'm sure its out of warranty by now

P.S. Anyone notice how many times the blue lights are supposed to blink before it boots? i used to see 1 or 2 and its doing it 3 times now.

So i checked Asus and i'm out of warranty. I let it sit for a day and tried to power it up a few times. Nothing. I just opened it up and smacked the left side of the laptop, and boom it turns on. Wow i guess brute force does something...

If that's the case, then it's probably a loose connection somewhere. I'd check with the inverter cable first if the problem occurs again.

Where is the inverter cable located? I opened the laptop up but didn't see anything loose.

Edit: The vga out didn't work either dunno if that makes a difference.

The inverter board should be located in your screen bezel. However, if your VGA output doesn't work either, then it's most likely a GPU problem. Since the W3J has been out of production for a few years now, it might be difficult to find a GPU replacement, but I'd start giving the Asus estore a call and see if they can help you order one first.
