Can someone please tell me if these temps are too high.

On battery, my W3J will hover around 52-58 degrees on my lap. Once it reaches 60 degrees, the fan kicks in and cools it down. This is with the processor running at reduced speed.

On AC, it almost does the same thing, except the fan runs more often and keeps it around 56 degrees idle.

To me, this seems hot, but I am not familar with the core 2 duo nor Asus' passive/active cooling methods.

    However,
My T60 with a core duo 2.0ghz would idle around 42 - 43 degrees celcius.

Seems normal to me, mine has run exactly the same way at idle. I'm guessing the difference is the x1600 on the w3j that the T60 doesn't have. Even at idle the card will produce more heat than an gma950.

When you're on AC, if using power4gear, your cpu is maxed out and it takes a bit more fan speed in order to keep the temp the same. If you want, you can download notebook hardware control and adjust how it works on ac and on battery, but make sure you know what you're doing first.

Like the others have said, the temperature seems to be fine. Its not too high for a Core Duo. Power4gear will most likely have a settings where you can set the processor to clock to full speed when needed, and when idling it can clock itself down. It might be called Dynamic switching or similar to that.

Alternatively, you can set the speed in Windows power schemes, to something like "Portable/Laptop", as that will have the same effect. The temperature should also reduce, since the processor isn't at full speed all the time.

Yeah, but on battery when the processor speed is reduced, the computer will still get up to 60 degrees even if I am just using word processing.

    Is that normal?

Does everyone experience the cycle where the computer gets to 60 degrees fan kicks on, lowers temp to 52 then repeats?

lol mine never gets below 65 once it gets there it stays in the 60's. Yea i can hear the fan but very low, once in a while it kicks in. It gets serious when I game, it really gets hot but the fan is there working overtime lol.

At home, my fan was kicking in really loudly and I suspect that it was because my house is warmer than my dorm room at school. Sure enough, I bring my laptop down into my basement (which hovers around 60F) and the fan no longer comes on when the computer is doing nothing.
