The 9th has passed and with it the $200 rebate to try to help sell the WXGA+ W2JBs has expired. Does anyone have any idea how far away the next shipment will be? If its still a ways away will Asus put out another discount to try to get them sold faster?

2 weeks and we'll see. A new shipment of W2j's are set to arrive then and it would be my professional opinion that they'd be WSXGA+ otherwise there was no reason to have a rebate running for a month on the current model...... but I've been wrong before... mainly because Asus has been known to do some dumb things.

are they set to be the same pricing? if they are, then a lot of people that held off for the current w2j would be thrilled, not that it was inexpensive to begin with.

Certainly won't be the same price, considering they lowered the price of the current model because it came in with a lower resolution screen. Pricing should be at $2,500 or so.

yeah, I didn't mean the same price as the after the $200 rebate for the current w2j. so at $2,500 it should be roughly the same as the current without the rebate. thats a good deal for those that waited for the higher res version.

No.... technically it would be $300 more than the current model, after that rebate..... which is what it was set to be on release, but when they came in with screens that no one ordered, they dropped the price $100 to compensate for the cheaper cost of the screen....... and then those rebates were because we basically left our ordered stock with them and so did everyone else.

Is there any word on whether this will be coming with a WSXGA screen?

.... I've stated the answer to this many, many... many times. It's coming, but there is still not ETA. There is a shipment of W2's that are coming in within the next two weeks, but they're not said to be WSXGA+ and they're not likely to be Merom cpu's either... But Asus wouldn't be bringing more of the same model that's currently here because no one was buying them..... So, could Asus be dumb enough to bring in WSXGA+ models in two weeks and yet have those sell bad because people are now saying they want Merom as well? I don't really know.... The most likely scenario is the V6 and W5 getting Merom and shipping to customers at the begining of September, with the W2 and V1 coming sometime a week or two after that and then the W3 and W7 a week or two after that, more towards early October.

So.... if that's how it plays out, why oh why would Asus bring in a Yonah WSXGA+ W2 for only a month of sales....... it really doesn't make a ton of sense, but I've seen them do dumber things and I've also seen some of those dumber moves turn out to be really good moves when the next thing down the line ended up getting delayed...... so it's really a tough call, but I'd say we'll we'll have a WSXGA+, Merom cpu, W2 clearly within the next two months... hopefully closer to one.

You guys in the USA shouldn't really quibble about the price, check out this review, and note the price on the top left corner....... yes thats the price in pounds.... according to XE.com that is approx $3800 USD....

    Although that is the W2Jc.......

I honestly don't see why everyone keeps harping on the WSXGA+ versus the WXGA+. The screen on mine is absolutely stunning and the extra resolution would make certain games play like crap. Don't get me wrong, the x1600 is a great video card but F.E.A.R. brings all but the most powerful systems to their knees. I tweaked the game config file to run at 1440x900 and it looks great while playing pretty darn smooth. Before you say I'm just saying all this 'cause I own a W2JB, I have seen the higher resolution screens and to me, it just doesn't seem worth the extra $500-800 it's gonna cost the people who waited. Just over $2K for this machine is a steal in my book. Now if we were talking Merom and WSXGA+ for the extra bucks, maybe, but I just couldn't wait until October for the new rigs.
