I wonder what the actual differences are between the W2 and the A7V aside from the appearance.

If I look at the specs of the Asus A7Vc , I cannot see much difference.

The shocking thing is that this notebook is sold for € 500,00 less than the W2. Which trick is Asus playing here?

But I might be overlooking something, so maybe there is somebody that can explain the pricegap.......

I believe the W2v is of a higher build...
    whereas the A7v is more of a "poor-man's W2v"
    :p

    Ok, fair enough........
But I would be very interested in what makes the difference in the "poor man's" W2 and the "real" W2. As far as I can see from the specs its not in the components. And if only the design is 500 Euro's, I am a bit confused.......

Is it really only blingbling?

The components of the two systems are pretty much identical...yes, BUT they are made out of different materials.
The W2v has a lot of brushed aluminum and such... whereas the A7v looks to be made out of a carbon fibre ALLOY (some plastic)

ANd I also think that the W2v is thinner/lighter...

Whoa....... the A7 is going to be more like 9 pounds.... Asus as already confirmed that.... The A7v is also going to have a lower resolution screen... both graphics cards would be the same though.

Yeah... power wise.. the A7v and W2v are the same.... however screen res is lower which should be enough to push people who need the graphics away from the A7v.... however the A7v will be a custom system, so that does have benefits in itself.

Well, look at the specs in the link I provided: wsxga+ Chrystal Shine screen. Isn't that the same as the W2?
AND it has build in microphone AND build in 1.3 Meg webcam, which is not on the W2. Furthermore, the top model is advertised here for € 1699 and the W2 for € 2300.(With the same processor) That's a huge difference for a carbon casing only. Here are the specs:

    Asus A7VC-R004H - 1024MB :
    Display 17' (WXGA+), PM Dothan 750 (1.86AGHz) - ATI X700 128MB - 1024MB DDRII 533 (512x2) - 100GB - WLAN 802.11g - XP Home ( ASUS Mobile Theater), TV-Tuner: Hybrid TV-Tuner + FM radio modual, Bluetooth, Bag en Optical Mouse.

    Still confused.........

What would make the A7V heavier than the W2? Isn't carbon fibre lighter than aluminum?

The W2 has Media Center, The Slot Load Drive, it's thinner, lighter, and I can assure you higher build quality.
Also the W2 sports the 2.13 Ghz Pentium M, faster han the one BarnOwl mentions.
I feel the price is relative taking into account the differences between the two models, especially design and build.
Did I mention the W2 has a two year warranty standard, and comes with a case, headphones, and a brushed aluminum Logitech Optical Mouse?

    Cheers
