My sister got a HP laptop for Xmas and it came with a free Vista upgrade. Would there be any issues if I registered her laptop and used the copy of Vista on my Z96J?

Yes...... and I honestly can't believe you had to even ask that... Of course there is. You can register it on one system... legally anyway ;)

No I wasnt asking if I could install it on 2 PCs. I was asking if I get the upgrade by using the info for her HP, but only install it on my Asus.

I would think that would probably work, since the upgrade CDs are unlikely to be tied to the specific (registered) unit that was submitted - what a nightmare trying to keep all those straight in MS' network servers if they did - but you never know with Redmond.

True, that's why I was asking. Never know what MS has up their sleeve now days.

Ok, yeah, you're right you never know...... They ask you for your xp serial, but that's just to verify you have a legal copy of xp....... In theory it should be fine as long as you're installing it over a legal xp copy.... I can't see it being tied to the serial that was used to get the upgrade, but hell... you never know and frankly if we say it shouldn't be a problem - it'll turn out that is will be.. So I'll leave that one up in the air for now, just so it doesn't jinx anyone.

Would there be any issues getting it installed and using it, probably not. Would there be any legal or ethical issues, probably.

Ah, it's good for one pc, and I think if you own two systems, one of which was good for the upgrade and the other was not, but you want to put it on the other one - I really don't think there are any legal or ethical issues to ponder..... trying to put it on both machines would be a legal issue..... faking the invoice date or something like that in order to get the upgrade is an ethical issue..

.... The ethical man knows that cheating on his wife is wrong and he shouldn't be doing it while the moral man simply doesn't cheat on his wife....
