Okay I understand that you get the G1S w/ Vista and bloatware already installed. What exactly is bloatware, just a bunch of crap programs/ads or something? If Xotic is custom building my G1S can I request that just Vista is installed?

Yes you can ask them to just install the OS. Call them up and put in a request. Bloatware is basically unnecessary programs that use up memory and utilize the cpu to do something practically useless or otherwise already supported by the OS.

Note that not every program Asus installs is bloatware. You'll need some of the programs to gt the most functionality out of the G1S - e.g. the console - there are several threads in this forum regarding bloatware and a couple regarding programs you might need.

Alot of people call "bloatware" anything they wouldn't have personally running themselves.
Some of it is actually good software, but people like us have no use for it. On the G1S resource thread there is a list of commonly unused software that comes preinstalled that is generally safe to remove.
It seems alot of people blow the "bloatware" thing out of proportion, when the G1 really is not bad :)

The G1 is nearly pristine compare to the Vaio I have. That thing came pre-installed with tons of stuff.

I dont think i installed a single asus program off the drivers disc after a clean install. this way and I dont have the system tray taking up half my taskbar because 15 useless programs are running taking up my precious memory

So you don't make use of the direct console?

thats really the only thing i consider "worthwhile" but as of now i haven't installed it. only thing useful about that to me is the clock during gaming.
