Hi. Have anyone found a solution to this problem:

(extract from my post at v6j forum at asus) [ link]
    >>>
I bought an Asus V6J recently, but the CPU fan isn't working properly in my opnion. It keeps running at a medium speed eventhough the CPU only is around 42 degrees. After some testing it seems that the fan is supposed to run even at such low temperatures. When I boot the computer into windows the fan isn't used at first, but when the temperature hits 38-39 degrees celcius it starts. This temperature is reached after a few minuttes without any CPU activity. However, even when the fan is on it can't cool the CPU enough in order for the fan to stop again. I've tried to bring the notebook outside and when the CPU temp comes below 37 degress the fan stops, but as soon as I go inside again and the temp. is over 38-39 the fan starts again. This is without the computer doing anything. This means that the fan is _always_ on, which in my opinion is really annoying and quite unprofessional for a notebook in that price segment.

Can anyone with a V6J confirm this "problem"...?

At the moment no fan control programs support this notebook or duo core for that matter, so there's no way to raise the temp. limit. Anyone found a solution for this?

    Sincerely,
    Kåre W. Christensen

    Darn... really?
The V6J has a fan issue?
Not that this is gonna make me change my mind about getting it, but could someone answer this?

If the V6v had a fan "issue" then so does the V6va and V6j...... it's not an "issue" it's reality. More performance you have... the more heat it creates, the more the fan needs to work to remove that heat..... in a system as thin as the V6, the more fan blades and faster the spin rate needed to compensate for the thinner fan in the thinner chassis....... that creates more "noise".... but it's not an issue... it's inevitable unless you want to hurt performance.

Justins right on the dot, though my fans usually turn off when it hits around 42 degrees, and turn back on near 44~ degrees.

I have not found a way to manually control the fans though, SpeedFan doesn't seem to recognize the fan sensors....yet?

I was just sitting here and had 4 people be quiet, the fan was running but we couldn't here it. I don't see this as a problem. The right side is a little warm, but not that big of a deal.

The whole in my opinion thing is the problem. If the engineers over at Asus believe the fan should be on at that temperature then it should be on at that temperature. If you use your laptop in a super quiet environment all the time and don't use any sound at all then try some earplugs.

People in the past had said I was a nitpicker, but I must say I am not and I must say you are the nitpicker.

It's just the way it is so accept it.

I'm still so surprised at how many people complain of fan noise on their laptops when they don't on their desktops.

A fan spins, so it makes noise.

you are not gonna have completly silent laptops with this kind of performance. i really dont see fan noise as an issue especially on battery. are you using dynamic switching?

The fan on my V6Va is on almost all the time, but it's not on high or loud or anything like that, just a subtle whooshing sound in the background. I think if you elevate the notebook and leave the bottom vents open you should be able to get the fan to spin slower (silent).

    Try:

    1) Use a laptop Cooler, maybe this can help. This is for home use of course, will keep your notebook cool and increase longetivity

    2) use RMclock and undervolt your CPU, info regarding undervolting a Dual core is scarce, so be very carefull in this case, run alot of stress tests.

Supposedly you can undervolt the YONAH at higher cpu speeds, but when you bring it down to 800 mhz, the options for undervolting are slim...so check it out.

If undervolting works, your CPU will run cooler and then this can definately solve your problem.

    3) Try SpeedFan and then manually adjust stuff. (I wouldn't know what to do)

    4) Test your laptop again ina quiet room and see if it really does bother you when the fan is on, if the fan is really silent and if all you feel is the air vent blowing, then you may be able to tolerate it. Who know

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Just wondering if anyone has found any way to keep the fan from being on literally all the time, even when Windows is idle. It's really annoying when you're in a quiet room. Using the laptop in a library or other quiet setting would annoy people sitting near me. I've tried Speedfan (with Everest in the background), but it can't detect the fan. I've tried messing around in NHC to no effect, and I've also tried cranking the nVidia driver's "PowerMizer" setting all the way down. I'm using the "Quiet Office" profile, which doesn't seem to affect the quietness of the machine at all. Running it on battery power doesn't seem to affect anything, even after a couple of hours. The laptop itself is only the slightest bit warm to the touch. I've had many laptops that got way hotter before turning on their fans, and when the fan was on it was far quieter. There are also current, comparatively thin laptops that have more powerful CPUs in them that do not run a fan constantly.

Please, what I don't want to hear is that I shouldn't consider it a problem. Unless mine is louder than it is supposed to be, which I doubt, then it's a real problem in my opinion, and is essentially a dealbreaker. I can't listen to this for the next 3 years of my life! It's a bummer because everything else about this laptop totally rules! :)

My V6J is silent. I would think that if yours is making a noise that bothers you then you must have a unit with some issue. I can't say for sure since I only have experience with this one unit but it is silent and I love it!!!!!

Wow, la_boy, that's really interesting. Very cool that yours is silent. Maybe there is hope for me yet! Do you know if you've done anything in particular that might account for its silence (seems like lots of folks have non-silent ones), perhaps something interesting about drivers, etc? Are you using Windows? Is the laptop somewhat warm to the touch, or totally cool?

Anyway, glad you're enjoying the machine.
