I have both the std bat and modular bay battery installed, and I'd swear I'm getting a max 3 hours with everything turned down to the max battery savings settings.

And recharging is taking around 4-5 hours.

Does this sound about right to you? Is there a battery rundown tool you'd recommend so I can quantify exactly what kind of bat life I'm getting?

    Thanks!

I'm running XP and get around 3 hours or more with just the primary battery. You can set Windows to not hibernate/shutoff when the battery runs out and time it.

I would bet that you are falling victim to the battery wear issue that plagues some Asus notebooks. Read here for more information on it.

Have a look this review as well, Click Here

So what you will need to do, is turn off the Critical Alarm, which is located in right Click on your desktop, properties, screen saver, power, then alarms tab. Then uncheck the critical alarm.

If you have Vista then set the critical alarm to "do nothing".

So on average, the main 8 cell battery should get you 3 hours, depending on how you use it. And on the 6 cell modular bay battery you will get roughly 1 hour and 30+ minutes, depending on usage.

As for recharging the battery, if the notebook is turned off and regarching it can take up to 4 hours. But if your using the notebook while charging then it will take upwards to 5+ hours.

Thank you for the feedback. The charging rate is right on target then.

I'll review that link. In the mean time, let me ask:
If I go into Control Panel->Power Options->Change Plan Settings(for the given plan)->Change advanced power settings->Expand Battery->Expand Critical battery action, I find I can specify "Sleep" for the battery option, but I don't have "Do Nothing" as an option. Only Hibernate, Shutdown and Sleep. I have changed Critical battery level to 0%... will that do what it is we're trying to do?

I posted in the other thread, but I don't know exactly the best way to configure Vista to do the same as Xp.
