    Use Recovery CD to repair windows XP?

    Is there a way to use the recovery cd that comes with asus laptop to repair a windows xp intallation or to install windows xp on a partition without deleting the data on that partition??
    please let me know asap!

    If only repair= no data related to the system will be deleted and apps will still be there.

    if installing windows into a certain partition= all data will be lost since the partition needs to be reformatted.

    yes you can use your recovery CDs provided that it has the OS and not only drivers.

    but when i boot with the recovery cd, the only option i have is to reinstall a clean copy of xp, deleting every file... am i wrong?

    I ran into the same problem recently. I didn't put too much effort into it though because I had another Vista disc that I was able to boot from and perform the repair. The repair didn't solve my problem but that's another story.

    I would like to know if it is possible though and how exactly one would go about it.

    I do not believe it is possible to 'repair' or install without formatting the partition. Anyway I wouldn't recommend it... I have the feeling the performance of a Windows OS installed in that fashion would be much worse than that of a clean install.
