    Hello everybody,

I upgraded HD in my W3V with a new 160GB Seagate Momentus, everythink works fine do far, however I do have a question. The stock Hitachi drive had some sort of protective film on it, while my new drives does not. It looks like it is glued to it so I decided not to try and remove in order to put it on a new drive...Does anybody know if it is an absolutely required element for using HD in W3V. If so, how you solved this problem?

Also, now that I have an extra drive I was thinking to use it with 2nd HD container, however, what I have is a bare plastic container with no screws connector of any sort or anything else. Would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction on how two properly mount second HD.

    Thanks!

The new drive goes in the same way the old one came out. The plastic film comes of the old drive and goes onto the new drive. Ithas adhesive back. Thats all there is to it.

    Thanks Eddie,
I will take it out and attach the plastic to the drive.

What about the second hd. Do I need to have a special kit for that other than just a stock plastic tray. Also, I got my hds without any screws and it seems like those will be required to attach the drive to the tray...Any idea on where to get them? Thanks.

the w3 has a trayless hd compartment. You will need the hd kit for the z63a. Its basically the same traveler drawer plus a special interface. It retails for about 40$ or so

I spent whole month trying to track down a local reseller (Sydney) for the 2nd hd housing kit & less than half of them even know what I was talking about. Couldn't even get it from distributor (IngramMicro) as they don't have part no. (problem being in Australia, such relatively small market).

Anyway, finally got the adapter from ASUS service centre. Brought my own plastic tray/space filler into the centre & the technician put in the adapter for me. Cost A$15 all up! From now on, I'm going straight to them. (Btw, don't know why the other thread complaining about Oz ASUS service, personally found them very helpful. They even gave me ASUS souvenir for the visit!)

Instead of installing 2.5" hd, I kind of modded it so I can use an external 3.5" drive ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=45558).

I bought it yesterday from Asus Estore for $15+$5 shipping. Very reasonable price. Looked on dealers' site, none of them offered it...
    PM me for Part number.
