sorry I've searched the threads but having trouble finding what i'm looking for:

    I have an ASUS K52F
    300gb HDD
    2.67ghz i5 pentium processer
    bluray...yadda yadda
    win 7 64 bit
    4mb RAM
okay so i use pc mostly for browsing..downloading...not a lot of gaming..mainly the basics, it's my main and only computer

I have a 3TB seagate external, but have it hooked to my home theater system, only hook up to pc to update new downloads

have a basically unsused 500gb external i back up music on, but it all fits on my pc no prob (about 100gb)

I'm thinking of upgrading to a SSD, but don't think it'll be worth the $$$ for me.

also thinking of upgrading to 8mb RAM...its cheap but dont really think i use over 4mb anyways

main question....it's not possible to ADD a SSD to only run windows, is it?

I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO ALWAYS HAVE AN EXTERNAL HD ATTACHED

    so basically....i cant have two HD's internally,correct?

looking into a 500gb Momentus Hybrid XT hard drive

ANYWHO....what should i upgrade, and what are my options:
    A) 8mb RAM...cheap and easy....but doesnt seem like it'd help
    B) would like a SSD, just dont wanna spend much over $100 on a laptop i got for $350
    - ITS NOT POSSIBLE TO HAVE BOTH SSD AND HDD installed internally, right?
    C) would the hybrid be worth it? (running windows/essentials on SSD, rest on HDD)
    or
    D) do nothing....i'm happy w/ performance....not a big gamer or programmer, rarely turn off laptop completely, so windows load time not that big of an issue

just looking for recommendations.....8mb RAM worth it? SSD? HYBRID? do nothing? not wanting to spend over $150 or so

i use my 3tb external for TV series, movies, etc, have hooked to western digital media player and have about 2TB of data readily available to watch, all in HD...kind of like netflix, but only stuff i like, no monthly payment......basically like owning a blockbuster store in a tiny box. looking for suggestions, recommendations, LINKS TO PRODUCTS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME

    thanks in adance@@

You can have two internal drivers if:

    1. You have more than one hard drive bay, or
    2. You have an optical drive bay in which you are willing to part with the optical drive. You can purchase and install a caddy and put a storage drive in this.

You CAN absolutely add a SSD strictly for Windows whether you have two hard drives or not, but if you are unable to add another internal drive under one of the above options I listed, then you will need an external drive for your data unless you want to shell out the $ for a larger capacity SSD.

If that's your budget, then a modest Hyrbrid drive and more RAM will suit you well. The solid state technology in the hybrid drive will speed up your boot time and your programs to a degree, and you'll still have space to work with - and the cost won't be as astronomical. Otherwise, you'll only get a small SSD alone for that price.

Upgrading to 6 GB or 8 GB probably won't give you a marginal difference in performance unless you're the type that runs a lot of programs simultaneously, but 4 GB is the advised minimum for 64 bit, so upgrading to 6 GB or 8 GB could stand to help if you're running a 64 bit OS.

    thanks.

thats what i'm not sure of...the two hard drive bays.. i assume it doesnt, seems like most dont....right?? anyways, i really dont have any issues, startup isnt a prob since its always asleep and rarely a fresh boot. think i'll just save the $$ and stay as is since im not having any issues. i game on xbox/wii, not pc, so dont really 'push it' as far as things go. it all sounds nice, but like i say, windows has never been an issues, waiting the 2 mins once a week or so on a boot doesnt bother me too much, never had trouble running or streaming anything.. im 95% browsing, 3% downloading, and <2% anything else.... 8mb doesnt seem like it'd make a diff at all, even though its cheap...wouldnt hurt i guess. my HD doesnt give me any issues....like i say keep vids on my 3tb external, music on the HD and other external i never use (unless it dies)... thanks for the help. SSD sounds so sexy, but so does 3Dtv, but wouldnt get my $$ worth out of either....my 50" 500ghz 1080p plasma does just fine ;-). was just seeing if someone could convince me WHY i need the upgrades....doesnt sound like i do. THANK YOU!!! :)

You're welcome! And that's true, if you're not salivating uncontrollably for higher FPS in demanding games or using professional engineering software, then you really don't need the SSD. The hybrid's are a nice middle ground, but again, if you don't have any problems with your performance currently, then save your $. :)

We don't carry that model, so I don't know if your laptop has two bays for storage drives or not. But in any case, the cheapest upgrade that might give you a slight bump in performance would be adding more RAM. RAM is cheap and going from 4 GB - 8 GB might give a small push (I think you mentioned this in your first post).

Anyways, enjoy your laptop and enjoy the forums!
