Does anyone know if the UX31A line - or similar model - will start to ship with 8GB in the next couple months? I love the machine but the 4GB non-upgradeable is a non-starter.

In the meantime I've got my eye on the UX32VD since it's so upgradeable, but I'd prefer not to spend $300 more for a discrete graphics card I don't need and a worse hard drive. I've got to say it's remarkable that no one is offering a 8GB ultrabook yet - Asus is not alone in this by any means. The Samsung NP900X3C for one.

Personally I think all new releases of such minor changes as a RAM increase are unreliable country by country at best.

As for the UX32VD, if up to 10GB RAM (vs. max 4GB) is important to you as well as being able to upgrade to 256-512GB SSD for a far more reasonable cost than OEM, but you're pressed for the bucks now, I would encourage buying the UX32VD and live with the stock HDD until you hit a minor financial windfall and then upgrade to an SSD. I would guess your final cost for, say, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD (the best spec you're likely to get on a UX31A in the future) would be the same on the OEM UX31A with those specs - if and when available - as to upgrade the UX32VD, probably less for the latter if you wait and RAM and SSD prices go down even further, as they inevitably will. I've yet to read a review from a UX32VD owner that they wished they had gone for the UX31A instead, but plenty have reported the converse. FWIW.
