My X83vm had been working well until recently when the USB ports all stopped working. I have tried 2 different external hard drives, a windows mobile phone, and a wireless mouse and none of them worked. It doesn't matter what USB port I try to use, none of them worked. I got a repeating popup window saying that there is an unrecognized USB device, even when I have no device plugged in at all. I found that if I turn off the laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery, the next time I boot it up the problem is fixed... apparently. At least the problem hasn't returned in 48 hours.

I thought it might have been a memory fault, so I swapped out memory, and in so doing had to disconnect all power and battery. Memory swap fixed problem, but I realized it may have been solved by power reset, so reinstalled original memory and problem has not returned (so far.)

Just wondering if anyone else has had this sort of problem with ASUS notebook, and if anyone has relevant, useful comments on the topic.
