Hello could someone please tell me the difference between the two in detail? Is Sandy Bridge really worth $200 extra? I noticed that some models have a fingerprint reader. How can I tell them apart?

I plan on reinstalling the OS to win 7 pro so the U36JC-B1 sounds like a good deal for $700.

    Thanks

Price premium for U36SD should be around $130-$150. With U36SD, you get a Sandy Bridge processor+HM65 chipset, a slightly bigger hard drive, minor upgrade in GPU when compared to U36Jc-B1. Most ASUS U36 notebooks are priced between $800-1000, and if you are able to find one for $700, it's a probably a deal you should jump on.

Woops, meant to say $799 which would make it $150 extra. Will it dramatically affect performance and batt life? How can I tell if I'm buying one with a fingerprint reader and one without?

The Sandy Bridge refresh should have a nice, noticeable bump over the Arrandale (U36JC). You would also see a nice graphical performance jump going from GT310M to GT520M. Personally, I'd pay $150 for a better all around laptop.

As for fingerprint reader, I'm not too sure. Sorry.

310m is not GT just a regular geforce card with 16 pipelines/cuda. But yeah the GT 520m is a nice upgrade about 25-30% faster with 48 pipelines/cuda cores
