I finally decided to buy a Asus notebook for school. I am not a big online buyer, so I am not completely comfortable with ordering something that will cost a good ammount of money without knowing much about them first. I wanted to know who the best Asus resellers are. I would prefer it if I could customize the W3V that I want to get. Really I would like to upgrade the HD to a 7200 rpm and the memory to 1 gb. If I could upgrade the processor it would be nice too.

Please share any experiences you have had, good or bad, in the past. Thanks for all of the help!

There are a couple places that will customize a w3 for you, but you void your warranty through Asus...... if you don't feel comfortable upgrading your own ram and swapping out your own hard drive.... you probably don't really need the performance anyway..... certainly not worth having someone else do it and voiding your warranty.

But in North America, you get the W3 in one configuration and that's it.

ResellerRatings.com is probably the best place to check out Online computer dealers. The ratings there are by people like you...the user...as opposed to magazine editiors that may or may not be influenced by the size of the advertising budget of the products being reviewed.

ProPortable.com and PowerNotebooks.com are both rated very highly there, but be sure to check out any computer related seller there before you make your purchase.

Now, the big difference between "Built-on Asus" and Asus Ensemble laptops is that with the Ensemble units you get what they offer...period. With the private branded "Built-on Asus" models you can have them built the way you want them.

LOL, I think the folks you see posting in this forum that are in the business of selling Asus laptops and other products are good places to look into, there's not one of them we'd say don't buy from and if they had a bad reputation they'd be foolish to post here as they'd get eaten alive by an opinionated crowd :)

Please don't leave out the PowerNotebooks.com Forum. It was started in September of 2002, primarily for Linux users, but it also has an Everything Else section as well!

if you are looking to customize your w3v you many consider the z63a as its built on asus configuration of practically the same comp but with just lower graphics so if thats not a big deal you may consider that comp aswell...

I can strongly recommend starpcs.net or proportable.com based on the experiences of both me and my brother.

I went through Geared2Play.com- they had the best price for the configuration I wanted. A bunch of discounts (student, military, etc.) and excellent tech support.

I unfortunately had a problem internally with my Z70V (screen wouldnt brighten/darken up). I called Geared2Play and they were taking my calls at Midnight, their time (Now that's service!). 9pm my time. They never heard anything like this, they trouble shooted over the phone and then they sent me an "Advance Replacement". I just have to swap out all the drives to my new one and send the old back. They told me to call them when I got it. That's a lot better than me sending it back and going without it for a few weeks. So when I recieved it, I called them back at around midnight (their time) again, they walked me through the whole process step by step. Sent me a UPS label and sent them back the old one. Overall- best service I've ever had.

They have their own forums too, for pre-purchase questions, tech support or whatever. Very quick replies too.

From the reviews I have read, ISTNC, and Geared2Play, are some of the best and friendliest Asus resellers out there.
