    Hello,

I’m new to the forum and basically new to notebooks. This site has been an invaluable tool in helping me with my research with regard to choosing a notebook, and so I want to thank everyone involved for their outstanding efforts.

After much research and education I have decided on the Asus brand and now I’m trying to choose between the two models mentioned in the subject header – The A6Ne (Canadian model) or the Z9 (US?). Both are currently available new through eBay. If you're interested, you can see their configurations here:

I can’t say I will demand too much from my new noteboook… I’m looking for a reasonably powerful and efficient desktop replacement. I don’t travel too much for work so I don’t need an ultra-compact - a few weeks a year domestically, with a couple of trips to eastern Europe annually.

I’m a banker and corporate financial consultant. I spend most of my time developing complex financial models (excel) and normal office type tasks (wp/email/presentations). I’m also on the Internet a lot. I’m not a ‘big-time’ gamer (Sim City is about as crazy as I get). I am becoming much more involved with managing digital pics and video, though. I would like a quality multimedia experience, but it is not the main criteria.

I was thinking I would go with either the Dell 700m or 6000d, but I just could not get comfortable with them. Then I came across the Asus line and got hooked. Those guys really seem to have it figured out.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go with the A6Ne; the widescreen should serve you better with your apps... it has more screen estate overall and the build quality is slightly better.
The A6Ne is also newer... although the technology on both notebooks are nearly the same. A6 has global warranty and has more goodies..you can't go wrong! [ :D]

Yep I would also say the A6, mainly due to the fact that its a built by ASUS...thus you get their 2 year international warranty, since you'll be travelling o/s occassionally, this could be very handy.
And it should have slightly higher built quality than the z9, which is a built on ASUS model.
Either way you should find that each model is a good budget workhorse that will provide more than enough power for your needs. My only suggestion would be to consider getting 1Gb of ram, as this will help greatly with photoshop and video editing.
    good luck

Thanks Aurora and Under. Good points indeed.

I decided to go with the A6ne, and it's on the way to it's new home as I type this.

Actually, prior to making my post I purchased this model but began to have some second thoughts. Kevin at Asus also recommended the A6ne as the better choice.

    The verdict was unanimous.

The staff at Asus was very helpful in answering my questions I will add. They were even willing to grant a change in order had I wanted to go that way.

I'm not sure if anyone posted a review of this model yet but if I get some time before my upcoming trip I'll share my thoughts.

Under - any specific recommendations for upgrading the RAM???

    Spaciba Bolshoi!
