Hey guys, a seems a new problem has come up with my G1S recently and I was wondeirng if anyone could help me.

Recently (past few weeks) my laptop started stuttering during games. It was really wierd, I would be playing with perfectly crisp FPS and out of nowhere there would be a HUGE stutter that would last 2-3 seconds, then go away. This would happen every few minutes. This happened in both COD4 and WoW, so I don't think the game was the culprit. Also I tried several different video drivers, both stable ones and newer ones.

After having the issue for a while, I started to find out that it only happened after I put my computer into hibernate mode then turned it back on to play a game. It seems that after I restart/turn off my computer, the issue doesn't come up.

My guess is that this is just a wierd software problem with hibernation and reformatting would fix the problem. Kind of don't want to go through the whole reformatting process so is there another solution? Or do you guys think its best to just go ahead and reformat to make sure it is a software problem and not hardware?

Thanks for any help/suggestions in advance.

Before you spend the time in a reformat, you might first look for any processes or background software that could be active and attempting an internet connection/update or stealing cpu cycles while the game is running - as a start, that would be one explanation for your symptoms.

It only seems to happen after hibernation though, when I restart the computer the problem doesnt happen. So if it was a program stealing resources shouldn't it happen both before and after, rather than just after the computer has been taken out of a hibernate?

Yeah, I think this G1S 3D stuttering is a well-known problem and can be solved by modded drivers from laptopvideo2go; there is a certain version that works well but I don't remember the number now. Search around.

Or you can try updating the ACPI drivers. If it only happens after hibernation, it's bad interplay between ACPI and GPU drivers.

I'll try updating the ACPI drivers, do I get those directly from the asus support site or somewhere else?

Why not try the most likely solution first? I.e. the GPU drivers.
