    w3v. WTF!?

Is this something that I need to contact Asus directly about? Would they even help me?

Because those little screens in the top right hand corner keep popping up by themselves and messing up my computer.

1 gig of ram ihave. the cpu usage is CONSTANTLY at 100% when this is going on.

    List goes on.

I havent done anything out of the norm with this laptop. Just simple web surfing.

I dont want to uninstall stuff so i wont have the program and therefore not have to deal with it. i want to know why my computer is jacked up.

    :(

Well, without more information, my first guess is that it might be a virus or spyware.

Have you or can you run a antivirus and spyware detector.

What little screens are you talking about?

"those little screens in the top right hand corner" are what's known as spyware & adware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.com and run it to get rid of your problem.

    Hmmm.....

I would try and get a different web browser as well. I've found that Opera works the best out of the all I've browsers I've worked with and has a great built-in pop-up blocker as well as some built in anti-spyware features. I'd also try Spybot as an anti-spyware program.

Well this isnt meant to sound rude im just saying this so ppl wont repeat it.

Im not really an "idiot" when it comes to computers.

So I had webroot spysweeper (my favorite) on here since I had the computer. but it just expired like last week.

So i -did- go and download the next best thing- ad ware. It found things and i cleaned it

    problem was still present.

so i went to my all time favorite virus scanner - trendmicro.

problem. no matter how many times i try, it will NOT let me run the virus scan.

So i went and hunted online for more free virus scans- same problemo. i can NOT run a virus scan on this computer.

The little screens i am talking about are..when you push one of the bottons on the right hand side of the w3v they pop up.

I guess the guy below you told what it is. *shrug*

    This is just really weird.

oh, THOSE screens  Now I get it! If I understand you correctly (and it threw me at first because on my Z71v the "little screens" pop in on the upper left), they are controlled by ATK0100, your ACPI utility. Try downloading the latest version of it on Asus' support page and that might help! :)

    Okay.. well wait

you know on the task bar the asus live update that tells you when there is new things to be installed??

well that had popped up but it wouldnt let me install it.

I'll go to asus' page and see if I can find that and download it.

It's almost like my computer is haunted . ugh

I'm wondering though still why i can not run a virus scan. but i never heard of a virus disabling one from running one.

Try to uninstall your ATK0100 drivers and reinstall them. You have them on CD anyway...give it a shot.
I'm 100% sure this is a software issue... nothing hardware related.

I'd beg to differ...but we can debate for ours about this. Anyway, I'd say
    Kaspersky > Avast = Nod32 > AVG > anything else out there

CPU Usage stuck at 100%...this is sounding more and more like software problems. Could be a virus...could be spyware. Could be bad drivers.

Just go to the Control Panel and "Add/Remove Programs", select "ATK0100 ACPI Utility" and remove it.
    Then reinstall it.

When in doubt format. just reinstall the retore cds. somtimes it takes less time to do that than to figure out what the hell is wrong and even then things always run better from scratch.

It goes to 100% cpu usage to pull up all the information you requested. After it's done, it clocks back down to idle. This is normal for all INTEL cpu ^_^.

Becareful which website you go to next time *wink wink*

You guys are retarded. I don't go to porno websites. I've been visiting myspace.com all the time as usual as well as my newly found website- wimp.com

I visit these 2 sites VERY often. But even on my old laptop myspace never gave it any problems.

I just got back online - AND IT'S DOING IT AGAIN AND CPU IS STUCK AT 100% AGAIN

All I can say is... it's most certainly software related.
Be sure to do a reformat during the winter holidays...
other than that, I don't know what else to recommend... this type of stuff is hard to troubleshoot.

It's a problem with the ATK drivers. I've had this happen to my computer. When it happens, just end the Hcontrol.exe task, and you're fine. What is happening is that Hcontrol starts freaking out and tells ATKOSD to start popping up those hardware command messages. End the task, CPU drops, and everything's fine. If you download the latest version, you probably will fix the problem. Actually, download the latest version of ATK, without regard to the platform, which is what I did. I also use the modded hcontrol that lets you remap the buttons.

The W3V is under the W3000 series.

The link for ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY
ASUS ATK0100 UTILITY driver for WinXP

    Points to:

    http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/W3Z/ATK_XP_051021.zip
(I can't explain why it is listed under the W3Z - maybe this is the latest version of the ATK utility and is applicable to all the W3 series).

Is there a proper way to switch from battery mode to your computer being plugged in? I just pill the cord out and put it back in with the computer on- could that be contributing to my problems?
