I am strongly considering buying the eee 1000h... as i am in the market for a relatively inexpensive ultra-portable.

Right now i am deciding between the MSI wind and the eee 1000h, and the eee seems to be the better deal. Even though the wind is $150 cheaper... the eee comes with a larger battery and wireless N... so IMO, the price difference is worth it.

I just wanted to hear some opinions from other members on this forum.... what would you do?

MSI wind for 500 or the EEE 1000h with 6 cell battery+ wireless N for 650?

IMO, the EEE probably has the "better" more regular laptop features...but that kinds defeats the point of a subnotbook. A subnotebook isn't supposed to be your main computer, so I think Asus is getting foolish here by cramming in more features and upping the price. Stay simple.

However, for you it really just boils down to whether you really need those features or not.

    is it really foolish?

as the NBR review states the battery life on the msi wind is abismal... and battery life is a huge convern for laptops like this.

Think about it... msi wind + 3 cell battery= 499... when the 6 cell is released... it should be a bout another 100 dollars. Now that the msi wind has lost its turbo button... and the eee has an overclocking feature... is the price difference really that bad?

I mean is it just me... or does it actually seem like the end pricing for these machines will be about the same

I'd be more interested in an MSI Wind 6-cell than the 1000h. I'm looking to get a 901 though.

Retail price on the Wind 3-cell is supposed to be $479. Due to battery shortages, the 6-cell is not available yet, but is supposed to be $499.

With those kinds of price differences, I'm more inclined to purchase MSI Wind over the EEE 1000.

at 649 i agree that the price difference would have made the wind a better value (i still would have bought the eee) but there are a few things that imo nmake the current price of 549 for the eee more appealing.

Right now the wind does not have a six cell battery and at most places is 499 so the argument of the wind with 6 cell... is irrelevant. Also the overclock feature has been taken out of the production model of the wind... which i think was one of the best features.

Over the current wind for 50 dollars you get a bigger keyboard, wireless N and a high capacity battery. If you bought a 3 cell wind and the battery later (lets asume it is about 100 dollars) it becomes a pretty lousy value.

I think asus was smart to drop the price (if they did, it may just be a sale)

If it's a price drop then the EeePC 1000 is a better deal.

I wasn't even considering the Eee because of its higher price but now I might get that instead of the MSI.

The Wind 6 cell will be out at the same $499 price, just later on when they have supply of the 6 cell.

ATM, with the price drop and such, I'd go 1000H, I think, but only until the Wind gets its 6 cell, then I'd stick with the breeze.

I am certainly interested in the 10" EEE however the 40gb flash holds my interest of the physical harddisk, and so I wait.
