I recently installed Vista on my A8Ja, which is a 1.66ghz Yonah laptop with the ATI x1600.

I've been using the drivers from the Vista Drivers thread on this forum, and everything except CPU speedstep is working perfectly

Every time I put the laptop into standby or hibernate, the CPU becomes stuck at the lowest multiplier. It never clocks up until I restart the laptop, no matter what power settings I'm using.

I've played around with all the power settings, and I've installed Notebook Hardware Control. The problem persists, even when NHC is managing the power options.

Is any one else having this problem? I suspect it's a BIOS or driver problem. Asus currently does not have vista compatible drivers on the download page for my laptop, even though this thing is supposed to be "Vista Capable".

The best way to see if Intel's Speedstep is broken is to perform a system intensive task (such as running two videos side by side) and watching the CPU's clock speed. Many members post about suspected problems with Speedstep, but it usually turns out that the CPU is just doing what its supposed to do.

Yeah. I did that. NHC tells me that my CPU runs at 998mhz even when running Super-Pi. I uninstalled and reinstalled NHC a couple of times. It changes nothing.

Gaming performance is very noticeably affected. I have to restart my computer every time I want to game, which is annoying.

    Restarting restores performance every time.

If you check the NHC forum you'll realize that the Vista version of NHC has a problem with dynamic switching which is exactly what you report.

I think he also had the problem prior to installing NHC.

You could try RMClock I'm unsure whether they released a vista version.

Best thing is to make sure you have the latest ACPI (ATK) drivers for your notebook, check the support.asus.com webpage. And not to use any ACPI-related third party software at all. See if the problem persists.

If it does, reinstall and don't put any software on the notebook except the basic drivers from support.asus.com. See after a fresh install you still get the problem. If not, then it's an issue with an app and not the OS/drivers. You can install apps one by one and see which is causing the problem by testing after each install.

    Hope this helps.

Edit: just saw you said that you don't have drivers on support.asus.com... that sucks. Then it's almost surely a driver problem with the non-quite-appropriate drivers that you installed. :)

    Here's an update:

I emailed Asus and asked them whether they'll be releasing new drivers any time soon, and the answer, to paraphrase, was basically "we have no idea".
