How does the sound compare in the W3J compared to say one of the Toshiba Harmon/Kardon setups?

I can't speak to the actual chip used in the Toshiba, but I would say there's more room (and probably bigger speakers as such) in the Toshiba so circle would get the square.

The W3j is a small powerhouse but probably it's biggest detractor (in theory since I don't have one yet) is since it's so small, the onboard speakers are also small (smaller woofers, drivers, magnets...etc meaning less sound)

EDIT: There's a little bit of drama going on today regarding the final specs that it ships with, so don't take that as anything wrong perse with the system. Pound for pound it's still a great day (and a great option) if you're looking for a light weight and very portable gaming machine.

Sound? Just get some nice speakers! It's a not a multimedia center with a TV Tuner... it doesn't weigh enough to be that.

Just accept it as it is, get a headset/headphone(s) and/or speakers... s'all good.
