    Sooo mad at ASUS right now. Error 1029 while trying to restore.

    I made a set of Restore DVDs using Asus AI restore utility. thinking I was all set to go on and delete the restore partition to free up room. Well Im selling the laptop that had been since upgraded from the original win 7 Pro to win 8 Pro. I went out and bought a External cdRom. but when I try to restore I get about 1 minute into the restore and get an error 1029 that means it cant find the restore PARTITION!! WTH! whats the point of making thse DVDs then? From what I read you need to but ASUS's restore DVDs for $50 USD. Im really pist off. I have a legit win7 Pro DVD thats boo-table that I tried to use but when you get to the part where to specify the drive to install to the POS 128GB Sandisk SSD is not listed with a win7 or a win 8 Pro DVD or USB stick. What the hell do I do? Im so mad as asus right now. Its the last ASUS laptop Ill buy. I had there Gamming laptop and loved it. but this stinks to high hell.

    PS: I tried using a USB stick with the chipset drivers for the UX31E drivers and cant see the correct SATA driver. or the ones I can get loaded I can see the proprietary POS drive to choose to install my legit win 7 or 8 OS. so im stuck at this point.

    Ohh and by the Way starting the recovery utility deleted the boot sector or something so im stuck with a DOA laptop that I cant even sell. I was booting fine with win7 before I attempted the ASUS recovery disk 1. Now im up the creek.

    1. The Asus recovery software does not work under Windows 8.

    2. Under Windows 8, you're suppose to create a recovery drive but keep the recovery partition in tact. I'm not sure why it's set up this way now, but essentially, users have been unable to perform a recovery unless they had both the recovery drive and the recovery partition. Accessing the recovery partition at boot does not work by itself.

    3. Is the SSD listed in BIOS?

    Also, Windows 7 and Windows 8 use MBR and GPT, respectively. You may need to use diskpart to assign one or the other prior to reinstalling Windows, if you can ever fix the current problem and get the installation to detect your SanDisk SSD.

    Sorry for the maelstrom of madness you've had with this thing. :(

    I had the same problem as you and I solved it (well, i didn't solve it by myself) using an external partitioning program, 'cause the 1029 error is sign of a corrupted partition table. I don't know exactly how, but i think it's a bootable program (and i don't know its name) that you can flash from the boot menu with a usb pen. I hope this will be useful also for you, because it's the solution we all needed to solve this problem.
