This is still the beta BIOS date 12/21/2007 and it should fix the "tee noise" when CPU is at c4 sleep state, if you don't want to try beta you can wait for final release:

    http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/images/Notebook/Asus/S96S-Beta602.iso

Instruction for using Nero Image files to burn a bootable CD:
    1: Download BIOS image ISO.
2: Use Nero to burn the image file to the CD
3: Insert CD and when first power on the laptop press "ESC" at Intel logo screen
4: Select Optical drive at boot options screen
5: at "A:\" prompt type "Update" and press "Enter".
6: it'll automatically update the BIOS and don't turn off or reset the computer during BIOS flash.
7: screen will go back to "A:\" prompt when finish
8: restart the computer and then hold F2 to enter BIOS, press F10 to save and exit BIOS.

It's up to you if you want to try the beta BIOS, I already email to few customers last week and it worked better now, I've also tested myself and at least it didn't create any problems, beta means it maybe not 100% fix all the known issues.

I was told this BIOS work better but still not 100% fix, also did you go to BIOS and load default BIOS settings after you flash the new BIOS?

I do have another BIOS and it's also a beta but I am not allow to post it yet.

yup, default everything except i had to change the HD to work as IDE interface. I think this is a hardware defect and may be they can shut off the c4 state in the update (but it hurts batt life). [email protected]> if u wanna help me out in anyway

    Hi all,

My question is : Does this new BIOS fix the 1394 issue for XP ?
I mean, the thing with the wrong detection of the 1394 controller with the yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager.

    Thanks a lot.
    Mickaël ;-)

Well, yes, cause it seems to me that i wouldn't be able to use my 1394 camera for capturing video.
I think it didn't work when I tested, but your question makes me feel it works eveni f the device manager finds a problem ...
Did you ever try and it worked ?

Having no answer, I retried to connect my camera to my laptop.
And it worked !!! Really thought I tried and it failed...
The camera was well-recognized by XP, I didn't try to capture video but I was able to see what camera was seeing (sorry, don't know how to say that) on the computer, so I guess I would capture and make footage on the laptop, which is a very good thing.

    Anyway, thanks for the help.
    ;)

I hoped it would work, that rogue device should not interfere with anything. If the OHCI controller is detected properly then everything works.

I was able to get version 0701 from the distribution company where I purchased the notebook from (ASI).

The Bios revision runs perfectly. No issues. I have used XP 32-Bit and Vista 32-Bit. No issues whatsoever.

This notebook is part of Intel's VBI (Verified By Intel) and CBB (Common Building Block) Project. They are both very similiar - taking Intel parts and other hardware that works well with that chipset and distributing them.

The drivers and bios updates are found on the Intel website - but these are poor and outdated versions.

The distributor where you purchased your notebook will have more info (including updates etc)
I bought mine from ASI MOBILE and they've been amazing with providing new Bios updates & drivers (or at least pointing me in the right direction)
