Are they going to be improving the keyboard on the S5 for the updated versions coming out soon? Looking at the keyboard comparison image Justin posted before for the S5n/M5np/W5a (http://www.proportable.com/images/keyboardcompare.jpg) I can tell that ASUS is obviously attempting to tweek the keyboard design on its compact models to make it more usable. I love my S5, but I find the keyboard quite irritating at times. The most common problem I have doesn't involve the backspace or enter keys as others have complained about, what I mess up most is using my shift key. Because of the placement of the arrow keys, I regularly hit shift + up arrow when I am tring to type a question mark. I also endlessly hit the function key on the lower left instead of the ctrl key, and I wish there was another place to put the function key.

I find I have to type slowly and actually look at my fingers when I'm typing on my S5, which is quite hard for me to get used to as I am a very fast typer and never have to look at the keys normally.

The layout on the W5a and M5np seems to be improved at least in terms of arrow key placement and size of the number keys, but the placement of the function key(s) is still pretty bad. I'm wondering how the keyboard is for those of you with larger models.

Part of my problem could be that I'm switching back and forth constantly between my desktop keyboard and laptop keyboard, and my desktop keyboard is 100% perfect in its layout as far as I'm concerned. But even typing on the laptop for extended periods of time I make mistakes constantly. It's one of those usability things that you can't really anticipate until you own a laptop or buy a new one.

Anyway, if they are updating it for the next release, lucky you to all of you who get one of those instead of this one! If they're not updating it, well...

Yes.. they will be making the S5a keyboard just like the white M5np keyboards I've got...... they won't fit on your notebook though because the palmrest area is changed.

    Thanks,

That's ok I don't intend to try to replace my current keyboard. I was just curious if this was something they were planning to do.

If you have the larger space bar and the full size number keys....... then it's an Np model...... the Np model never came to the US in the way of the white S5n.... I do have some of them for the white M5np.... but aside from that, they didn't come here yet.

So, are you saying you have the white model with those size keys... or a black model and the middle picture matches that color?

    Thanks,
    Justin
